Why does it say 'may contain nuts' on a bag of peanut???? What else is gonna be in them???

It does sound silly when you read it sometimes but it's actually a warning about the risk of cross-contamination with other nuts as well as it containing peanuts. I.e. someone may not be able to eat a different nut but be ok with peanuts but during the production stage there may be a risk of contact with the others.

The joys of the wonderful food safety laws in this country. I have spent many hours reading the back of packets in supermarkets each week for the last 10 years

I disagree with that in one way I have a lot of common sense and intellect, yes it's it's protection thing, but for those with allergies it's a quick way to see if it contains or may contain an ingredient. Believe me, when a weekly shop takes you 3 hours to do because you have to check every packet, your grateful for these warnings as it's a quick reference rather than having to read every single ingredient on every single packet you pick up.

Yes it is a protection thing but has very little to do with protecting consumers.

It's much more about protecting manufacturers and retailers from ambulance chasing lawyers.

Companies can't take the risk nowadays like years ago because of the culture to take legal action.

I was on a flight last year and the captain asked prior to take of if anyone had any nut products on the flight could they please refrain from eating them onboard the aircraft, he also said that snacks with nut products would not be sold due to a severe allergy a child on board the flight had.

Thank god everyone was respectful! Dread to think what might have happened otherwise.

It's a huge hastle having such allergies weather nuts or other things to be honest

I have a peanut allergy. Last week at a club, I was getting on extremely well with a certain sexy lady. After kissing for a while, my lips kept tingling. I went to look on the mirror to my surprise my lips looked like Pete Burns !!! Not an attractive look! X

Agree with you on this one, two of my kids are coeliacs...lots if companies change recipes that things that used to be gluten free are no longer so... oh the joys of label reading

I know that, but this thread is about nuts. There are 14 listed food allergens... including eggs, fish, nuts, peanuts, cereals containing gluten, and celery...
