Watching it, lol some of these artifacts are almost 150 year's old!

Hardly archeology is it

Thousands of year's of native American history to investigate and they choose civil war stuff to dig up.

In a camping forum I occasionally use, the American campers talk about finding Native American camp sites hundreds if not thousands of years old.

They go on to say bone tools and arrow heads etc are just laying on the ground round fire pits.

Apparently in the drier places things don't get washed away or buried...

I think that given time they will be able to explore other periods of history. Owing to the lack of written sources, the size of the country and the semi-transient nature of some of the occupation, it must be tricky knowing where to dig for the best return. Whilst finding arrow heads and remains is interesting, it's not that novel, nor would it probably add to the corpus of knowledge.

A lot of Native American sites are sacred, I should also imagine there's a reluctance to dig on sites where Native American genocide was committed or slave trade ports or markets

As humans we have always been bastards to others from different cultures/tribes.

Its why I am confused about the whole reparation for slavery argument. Why should one group still expect/want an apology for what happened generations ago. How far back should we go? For the english should we be asking the french/danes/Scandinavians/italians for an apology for invading this fair Isle?

Andersonville is a very good movie on the subject if you can find it.

The American Civil War is one of the most fascinating eras in human history for me - bit of Old World snobbery at work here

I can't find any civil war records on my family though I think my great great grandfather who was born in masachuts and moved to Philidelphia was probably in the civil war
