Sorry had to share my news, my eldest son, he's 15 and has aspergers has been offered a part time job with the people he is doing work experience with!

I'm so proud of him, he's grown up so much and he isn't one for getting 'out there' or pushing himself but over the past year he has come on leaps and bounds, has a great set of friends and the boss said today he is the best work experience student they have ever had, he went there by himself to sort the work experience out months and months ago too.

Sorry just wanted to share my news

G xx

Fantastic! Well done to your son.

My son is 22 and Autistic. He finds it so hard to find an employer that understands his condition, it really gets him down!

But again, brilliant!

Congratulations on your son's new job

I have Aspergers and I remember getting my first job at where I did work experience when I was 18 which was a McDonalds. I was there for 2 years and I thought I was gonna enjoy working there but sadly I didn't as it was a very stressful job which did upset me at some points.

With the help of a disability employment officer, I managed to get a job at Vue cinema and have been working there now for over 10 years

Nothing wrong with being proud of your kids, especially when they have to overcome being different (our son didn't speak until he was four) so no need to apologise for it. It's a shame so many parents seem to have so little interest in raising children to be proud of

How wonderful, it's so hard for youngsters to get a part time job. You have every right to feel proud of him - does he realise what a big deal it is?

I'm not sure!! He came home and told us, he said his boss said to come and speak to him about it but he didn't know what to do and so he just say 'thank you' and got on with his job, which is typically him, I think he now knows as everyone has been saying they are really proud of him, so tomorrow he is going to go in and talk to him xx
