Saving up

As it's the new year I have been thing of different ways to save up some money. Not massive amounts but just little kitties for myself.

One was to save £1 for every mile I run this year (back dated to 1St January) but I've hit a groove and that would mean I'd have to put in £43 already the idea being that the money saved this year will go on to pay for race entries next year. Might drop it to a pound per run.

Another one is a £ for a lb with my weight loss backdated to the beginning of my journey, that would mean £27 so far. Not sure what I'd spend this on really, just nice thinhs for me when I hit milestones.

Do you have little saving funds you put into?

No. I just have the one bank account and spend as I see fit. I'm a tight ass though, so most of it doesn't go anywhere

I am doing a 365 day penny challenge to save up

1st January was 1p

2nd January was 2p

And each day is a penny more - today 25p

However in December I thought it would be hard to be putting in the £3 odd a day so in the week payday falls I put in some of the December amounts

Got an Excel spreadsheet to keep me right

By end of the year it is quite a few quids

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I've been paying the money I dont spend on cigs into a savings account since I gave up smoking. It pays for my holidays.

This year I'm saving every £2 coin I get. Up to £66 already!

I just put all my change into a big bottle and cash it in using one of those coinstar machines twice a year...once before the holiday and again at Christmas...last years haul was £140 all together...

this year I'm collecting 20ps and £2 coins

I've got a couple of those funky ceramic saving jars one is for whenever I get a £2 coin that's for my louboutins fund.

The other is for 20p coins not sure what that should be saved for yet maybe my very own lamppost who knows

Set up direct debit day after payday...you wont miss it.

Keep a spend diary.. Its a shocker but made me change my approach.

Oh yes and I empty all change under 50p size out of my purse every so often and when the jar is full I coin star it for a shopping voucher.

All of my commission goes into my pension, and I put between £100-£200 a month into an "emergency savings" account (it's just a normal current account, but separate to my day to day banking one. I see less than half of my total pay, I hope I don't die prematurely

I don't do anything else, really. No kids, no one relying on me, I like having a nice quality of life. It'll change when I get knocked up, I suppose.

I've given up my morning latte at £1.89 a go. I'm putting the £40 saved in a jar on payday towards my brother's wedding in August - should cover hotel, outfits & shoes for me & my 2 boys + bar bill.

I also save £2 coins in a money jar that has to be smashed - that's for our summer holiday trips & treats

My current fund is hit £1000 for some new subwoofers, will get around £700-£750 for the ones I've currently got.

Still got £150 in cheques stuck on the fridge that I need to cash! Will probably have the rest in the penny jar....soon adds up when you put pound coins and the odd note in them

I'm not. I save all year round and dont blow it. Even paying for my big holiday next year will leave me with £1,000 still in the pot.

After my 50th I'll start topping up my pension. I like living well, but I'll like living well when I've retired even more.

little house on the praire

Bloody hell I put money everywhere lol.

Day today bank account it goes in and mostly drawn out but I save £200 a month in there for birthdays holidays Christmases that sort of thing gets spent on those things then goes back up and spent again. Not long term savings, oh and say the washing machine home broke or something that kind of thing.

Then my savings savings account which I put £500 a month in and its not supposed to ever get touched but occasionally I might have to dip into it.

Then baby jacks bank account that I shall put £50 in for birthdays and £100 for Christmas until he's 21.

Then my ISA's that can't be touched for 5 years at a time.

My change jar which this Christmas had about £230 after normal outgoings I give myself £30 a week pocket money which I spend on charity shops and cups of coffee

I don't really save. We have a running emergencies fund of a grand or so for if something breaks or leaks or whatever, but I'm in and out of my overdraft and credit cards and stuff at different points during the year because some months just need more money than others. Obviously I should manage that via savings rather than debt, but I don't. I don't get bonuses or commission, so never really have any big one-off amounts I can put away.

I know if I needed to cut back on spending I can - (and have in the past when it's been required) but when I don't, I won't.

Over the last four years I have started one each year putting a set amount into it each month and when they mature I will have a fair amount to spend on cars and holidays etc.

Only six more years to go till I can cash the first one

live cheap, buy bulk, shop around, and stop buying named brands and dont over spend think before you buy something, do i really need this, have similar, wont get used...., or what better good could this money be spent on, mortgage, bills, improvements, new car....

and dont go out to often, thats how i save, can save a large amount every month. may sound boring but it seriously saves alot,

you can also add up what each month you spend on things, just a rough price not exact, and you can see if you are overspending and what you can cut back on.

I've thought about it but I tend to just be a little uncontrolled with money, spending a little less when I feel I need to and spending what I fancy, when things interest me.
