"The BBC has confirmed plans to axe 650 jobs under huge cost savings, saying it was a "painful day" for its global news service. Around 480 of the jobs will go over the next year and the savings will amount to £46 million a year by 2014. The BBC made it clear the cuts were as a result of changes to the funding of the World Service, which will be paid for by the licence fee from 2014 rather than by the Government. And i bet the fuckers will put the licence up even high ?" That seems a like a lot to go. did it say anywhere how many the Beeb actually employ in total?

"And i bet the fuckers will put the licence up even high ? Not for 6 years they won't, they agreed to feeze it last October." Thats why they are cutting staff then to save costs. A shame really because some of the smaller Beeb stations are quite good and i am guessing some will get cut with that many staff going.

"If they stopped their execs running up taxi bills of between £1200 and £2500 in three months, they would probably not have to make the cuts" Not a chance but that's what the public believes. The BBC getting massive cuts as the Tories return to power? Oh, what a coincidence! Nothing to do with Rupert Murdoch at all... http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/news/2010/05/21/pm-pay-back-to-murdoch-115875-22273847/ Quite simply, the BBC is important as it does have a desire to be impartial. Yes, it isn't perfect, but it's a million times better than anything else out there, and that goes for News International, the bullshit Mail, or the pisspoor Guardian.

The Macedonian, Albanian and Serbian services will be closed, as will English for the Caribbean and Portuguese for Africa, in a bid to save £46m a year. I think the biggest issue is that it could affect things diplomatically with is one of the things that Hilary Clinton raises...
