A comment in the single parent thread made me wonder about how I think about life.

I suspect maybe some of you will think I'm naive about it but I don't really do politics and I would never take anything that's going on politically into account when making decisions for myself and my life. I pay no attention to the news, I don't know who half the MPs are and I just don't care.

Is that wrong? Some of the policies will affect me I'm sure but I just have no interest. There's nothing I can do about the price of petrol, I still fill my car up regardless of what it costs. I'm never going to be able to change stuff like that so I don't know that I see the point in moaning about it.

I probably should pay more attention to it all but I just don't. I don't think I ever will. I just carry on and get on with what I have to do. I don't think I will ever make a major life decision and take into account the politics of the country while doing so.

Am I alone with that?

No im exactly the same,sometimes I think thats a good thing and sometimes I think I should be more actively involved with whats going on around me and have a greater understanding

I just don't feel grown up enough yet

give me another couple of years at least

You can take notice or you can float through life ignoring politics. Apparently though unless you went to Public school you have very little chance of affecting anything. Well that is what the press are currently telling us.

Probably my age but i truly couldnt give a stuff about governement. Wrong attitude to have im sure, but other people will always make decissions and i cant personally influence them so i shouldnt really stress out.

I do watch the news and have at times found myself watching Question Time but I just accept that the politicians will do what they want to do.

We can all sign petitions and protest as much as we like but rarely does it appear to get us anywhere.

unfortunately this is too true. politicians seem to think because they are elected that gives them a mandate to do what they want and ignore what the people want.

this in itself is worrying as they are playing into the hands of the BNP etc. if you look at their policies on immigration, law & order etc, they are very much in tune with many people in this country. it is only a matter of time before they find a charismatic leader and start gaining more support despite their extemist views.

Pretty much my attitude.

I rarely watch the news and find many of the newspapers to be scaremongering bollox to be honest.

On Fab I never (okay, rarely..) post on the political threads as the people who do have already made their minds up on the subject anyway.

Back to my knob gags and flashing my bum for me...

when i was at uni i dabbled in politics for a bit,i went to some party conferences etc I found that the high up politicians were egotistical careerists who cared about their wallets and status rather than about making a difference.Im now an anarchist which i believe is about making a difference from within your community where it really counts.

I do show an interest in what affects me, ie university tuition fees are interesting me as my son is 16 and it'll affect me and im interested in the NHS reform. I do think though that theres no point worrying too much
