heard on the news today of a man in his forty's who must inform the police of his intent to start sexual activity's with a female so that they can approach her with details of his past . failure by him to comply will trigger immediate imprisonment .

the man had recently been cleared of a rape charge

heard it also it does seem a bit weird, either he was cleared of the allegation or he was guilty in which case he would be on the sex offenders register..

but does someone who is on the register also have to comply with similar rules..?

not sure about the whole thing ..

I saw this on the mail site before seems like half a story to me somethings missing if he was cleared then this is a breach of human rights

Does seem weird, either he is guilty or he isn't, there is no grey area. according to the story, the cops can decide to push this onto someone if they think he might be a danger. I think this is a get out clause, the cops or prosecution screwed up the investigation somehow, he is guilty but because of some stupid technicality he got to walk. I don't think they would use this lightly though.

Why would we assume they screwed up. We had a family member killed by a guy. the police knew he done it but the crime persecution service wouldn't allow the police to charge him with her death on lack of concrete evidence and the guy walked

I've been saving this thread since I thought it was going to be one of your jokes.

Where did it say "so they can approach her with details of his past"? Without that, and coupled with his name being withheld, makes me wonder if he isn't a vulnerable adult himself with learning difficulties, and the order isn't trying to discourage him from having sex. Definitely a pertinent detail missing from the story, meaning it will be over-hyped by all and sundry. I'll stick with 'I trust the justice system, acting on all the facts, to deal with it properly'.

(Or blame government cuts?)

Sorry that you lost a loved one, but I do not think we should start convicting people without concrete evidence.

It's only for a period of 4 months! Bit of a mood killer but not that difficult really. It makes sense; if he's a serial offender (i.e hes got a mental problem) then he won't last 4 months and he'll get locked up for longer than he otherwise would have. If nothing goes wrong in 4 months then he probably doesn't have a problem.
