"London is hard work. Even people less than 10 miles away can take over an hour to get to.

Easy solution - contact them 2 hours before you expect them, then what with travel and all, they'll be on time

It's a big city, especially if you're trying to get across it.

You're in 'Surrey' so try coming out to the Home Counties.

The City of london is a city within a City, what we now know as Greater London Originated here, and although the Original city long ago outgrew its city Walls, It remains a separate entity from The rest of london with its own police Force, its own unique customs, and a maze-like street plan dateing back to The middle ages, Andrew Marr goes onto Say in the foreword of the book, Britain from Above, that the city of london has the Greatest Population Fluctuation of any City in the world, A square mile with a mere 9,000 permanent residents but More than 300,000 migrant workers Travelling in and out every weekday, But more amazeing than this I found was the amount of Commuters useing Suburban trains, for Instance upto 100,000 people per day and upto 37 million a year, useing charing cross station, along with Londons Liverpool Street Station with upto 156,000 per day, or nearly 57 million People a year, along with motorways, Airways/Airports, In the city of london its stated that average traffic Speeds around the year 2000 were the same as it had been in 1900 - a mere 12 mph, makeing it the slowest city in Europe, Certainly a book I,d recommend If sometimes only for the aerial pictures of some which are stunning. but of course these statistics Are nearly several years old now, so numbers may be higher which is hard to Imagine really..

When I worked in London it was hard to get a meet for two main reasons. ..

1) travel. As you say people's working lives with travelling makes a long day

2) a lot of people house/flat share due to the prices..

to this thread. I really don't get the issue with traveling a bit.

When I lived in Brooklyn it used to take me 3 hours each way on the subway to visit my friend in the Bronx. I did it regularly.

Getting to high school took me almost 2 hours each way.

Grab a book, get on the tube, and enjoy the ride.

The last meet I had in London was with someone from Southend, we met half way, it would have been quicker and less stressful to drive all the way to hers.

Birmingham is almost as easy to travel to than East London.

Same here, and I don't like travelling alone on the tube at night. Plus the walk or bus from the station.

I just looked on the "who's near" and there was a grand total of 3 people within a mile who match my preferences. I did the same in London last week out of interest and there were loads.

There are people in places not that far from me up here that I can't even get to at all because they're not accessible by public transport and I don't drive. You may not appreciate it but Londoners you have the best public transport network in the country.

We don't think too much of travelling to a good club or party at a regular venue. When I met men alone, I would travel within an hour. I was new to London, so it was all an adventure. Now I prefer to meet in clubs anyway. Circumstances change, and career, family and relationship take up the majority of my time now ....

Guess it depends on the time of day. I travel from North London to Sutton, which is 26 miles away, in just over an hour. But then again, I only ever travel for such 'activities' on a Friday or Saturday evening

AbFab is 14 miles away and takes 30 minutes

We are struggling to afford to live here, despite both being on good salaries. So, we try to seek out a good place .... but, as soon as we venture into the sticks, we I find it hard to cope with the blandness of it. I love the countryside, but entertainment, food, etc choices are so limited. We think we are looking at about an hour out of the capital. Love my job, though, so that move will be a tough one.
