Strange or funny telephone cold callers & your ways to deal with them.

Had a very strange cold call this morning, private number long pause then an Indian man who knew my name, postcode & that I was aged between 20-80.

He wanted to know my washing machine was ok. I told him we didn't have one, he sounded surprised & said don't you wash your clothes? I said no he said so you use a laundry? I said no we buy second hand clothes wear them once then throw them away. (Not sure he believed me Lol). He then went & I've not a clue why he called.

Had a friend once who was continually pestered by people trying to sell him a stair lift. No amount of saying no they kept calling, so eventually he gave in & arranged an appointment. He said the look on the guys face when he opened the door & realised he had no stairs was priceless. (He lived in a bungalow).

How do you deal with the cold call nuisances?

Just say no thank you and hang up. They are just normal people doing a job and probably hate it more than the people receiving the calls.

Or tell them the truth.. Don't believe in cold callers, if I want something I'll go out n get it..

I report many of them to the Information Commissioner for breaking rules.

III also remain silent after picking up a call from an unknown number. The computerized call centre usually disconnects from you, assuming that you're not human or answering.

I'm always polite but firm and rarely get them now.

Not a cold call story but kinda related

I once phoned O2 technical support and I swear I got his sex noises down the phone as he was trying to figure out what to do. Was really hard not to giggle and put him off!

Whenever I get those sales calls I usually just politely say I'm not interested and ask them to remove my number from their list. I'm always tempted though to put them on hold and see how long they wait for lol

I just don't answer the phone - it's either cold callers or my mother in law.

I used to get dirty phone calls when I worked in an inbound call centre, I know I have a nice voice but people are fucking weird.

I used to make merry with them, but then I realised they are just people like us doing a job they probably can't stand and being an arse to them wasn't making anyone's day better. However, if they are persistent, then it is game on.
