He wants to ban all Muslims from entering USA...that's generalising.

So to be fair we should look to ban all Donald a Trumps from entering UK. Then it isn't a personal thing!

Now if you banned all trumps from entering the UK it would be a far better smelling place.

But personally I'm against banning people, for opinions.

If they are a danger or don't meet visa requirements that's different.

But does that not infringe the right to so called....free speech ....

Or does it actually affirm his belief political correctness in the uk actually perpetuates many of the problems he feels could be solved by banning certain people from entering the country

That's a difficult one!.

I hate banning things, I prefer to confront them honestly.

So I'd prefer the UK government to say out loud that diplomatic relations would be severely harmed by such actions as he proposes!.

I think the good thing is that most Americans have seen through his bullshit despite his grandstanding to a particular Christian section of them

His first response was to say if he's banned from the UK he'd withdraw the money he's spending in Scotland building golf clubs and resorts. Couldn't give a rat's arse if he's banned or not but the thing I do hope is that he's not made President of America. Can imagine that WWIII would soon follow. Look what happened last time someone told everyone of a certain religion to wear a badge to show their faith

Most rational thinking people will know you could never implement his ideas ie ban Muslims from entering the USA. He says things to get as much airtime as possible. That's what wins elections over there unfortunately.

It's not racism. It is xenophobic.

And the reason why is clear. To be so fearful of so many based on the actions of so few is ridiculous. And it stems from problem evidenced before by Trump: his fear of people different from himself. Build a wall to keep out the mexicans who are rapists and murderers, put a temporary (yet undefined) ban on Muslims entering the country because of a small number of attacks, etc.

If that is his answer to anything troubling in the world then I don't need him to be President. A 5 year old would do nicely.

Hello Bedbath,

"Prey tell how anyone is racist for asking for a `TEMPORY` ban on followers of a certain religeon that is causing fear and avoc all around the world until checks are in order to find out who is coming in."

At last, someone who listened to the whole of his statement. The majority only seem to think he was advocating a total ban.

It was a totally political point, as many Americans would ban Muslims and also he was putting pressure on the current administration. Idiot, I don't think so.

I think you could do with reading up a bit more on violence around the world. The US kills more people than any other group around the world. Perhaps we should be banned from ever leaving American shores.

My point is that it is a small number of muslim people in the US who do these things. Bad people do things in the US all the time. At the same time as the shooting in California that was attributed to Isis sympathisers happened, a crazy Christian dude shot up an abortion clinic in Colorado. You barely even heard of it over here.

Acts of violence happen all over the place for difference reasons. Many times bad things happen because of Christianity, or racism, or nationalism. If the answer of someone running for the president of the United States is to just keep everyone out then I call that childish, counterproductive, and xenophobic.

Just like Christianity has been. The majority of Muslims deplore the actions of Isis. Certainly something must be done about this radical and dangerous organisation but if Donald had his way Mexicans and Muslims would be banned and then what next? Afro Caribbean's? Italian's? Irish?

Yes we should. I don't think anyone has a problem with that. This isn't about immigration to the UK and no one has suggested people opposed to immigration are racists. Not sure where you came to that conclusion but it is a long thread and you could be forgiven for going off track a little.

Trump has not called for violence, death to other people in the same way some of the hate preachers and extremists you mention have. So he is different in that way. Inciting violence and death is illegal, saying a group of people should be banned isn't.

Everyone with strong opinions on here aware of 'confirmation bias'?

You have your beliefs and only filter in information that reinforces your beliefs and ignore that which contradicts or disproves them.

Have any of you objectively considered the opposing _iewpoint? In this world awash with information at the touch of a button, statistics, propaganda, Google and Facebook users especially, are at risk of living in a filter bubble.

As a thought exercise in enlightening yourself, try justify the other sides argument to yourself. Only then will you understand how to communicate effectively with those of a different _iewpoint.

I agree with those that say people should be free to voice their opinions regardless of whether they conform to others _iew of being acceptable or not, as long as they are not inciting violence. We do live in a democratic society, allegedly. I do feel disappointed that Trump is getting as much airtime as he is. i don't think he should be banned..... but i think there would be a reasonable arguement being made that he is inciting religious hatred, of which the home office have banned people from entering the UK.......

anyway.... trump/palin 2016!!!!!

i don't know if dems are laughing more... or mainstream republicans would be crying..... he could blow up the republican party in one big blow.....

anyway.... i think the sanders vs clinton contest on the democratic side could be the more interesting... especially if bernie wins both iowa and new hampshire....

I am actually beginning to lean more and more towards voting bernie...... not all in yet... but a long way from where i would have just blindly voted for hilary

USA are responsible for more murders and wars as they are providing the arms etc to ISIS and war on Islam goes on

Good post, not only a waste of tax payers money, but also a risk of Trump withdrawing hundreds of millions of pounds of investment into Scotland and the rest of the UK. Trump is probably secretly enjoying it though, it's played right into his hands and given him more free publicity and media air time.

But personally I'm against banning people, for opinions.

If they are a danger or don't meet visa requirements that's different. "

Unfortunately, opinions become a danger. Anyway, the UK will NOT ban a US president past, present or future, dead or alive.

On that note, he has a Trump card.

Bring him over. let him do what Mitt Romney did in 2012 and make himself look the idiot he is and its sorted. Comedy is a great thing ... The Yanks produce a nutjob every 4 years. Palin in 2008, Romney in 2012 and now Trump the Chump. Same shit different year in the US of A.

Banning him makes him look a martyr and Yanks love a Yank 'Heerooo'. So no don't feed the Troll. Just take him walkabout in London where he says we can't go. Oh and face the UK media who are a bit more savvy than the lickarsed Fox News he is promoted by.

As for banning people its been forgotten that 20 British families have already been stopped from boarding Aircraft in the UK bound for the USA. I guess the fact they were Muslim really had no bearing on the US Authorities' decisions ....

Of course it has nothing to do with Brits how the Americans vote, but likewise it should have nothing to do with the American President telling Brits how they should vote either. Where does Obama get off telling Brits they should vote to stay in the EU when the referendum comes?!

Just like some Americans don't like it that we debated banning Trump, many Brits don't appreciate Obama sticking his nose into our EU referendum debate. Obama needs to realise not all of us are poodles like Blair was to Bush and we won't all fall in line because he says so. Obama said a few months ago and i quote "I look forward to Britain remaining in the EU."

The arrogance of the man to assume that is quite frankly astonishing.

in the end I suppose like you said the real people who lead the government or countries in the world are those who function in the shadows be it big corporation owners/judicial system people etc and others so in the end it does not matter who wins as they all more or less toe the company line regardless to which party they back or what opinion they have.

Plus he lives in the USA where freedom of speech is protected in the US constitution.

And finally, how would banning him from the UK work if he wins the US Presidential Election? Do you think we should refuse to have any political dealings with our biggest ally if he is elected?

That sounds a bit like the attitude that was prevalent in this country in the 1930's and led to the 'Peace in our time' speech. That did not end too well for the people living in our towns and cities...

My point was one more about complacency, and the willingness do dismiss threats out of hand when it is patently obvious that they are a real and growing danger.

Maybe you should watch channel 4's 'The jihadist next door'. It may open your eyes to how real the threat is.

Firstly, I would suggest that for every Jihadist that channel 4 got to appear on camera there are 10 that refused and probably somewhere between 50 and 100 that are so far underground channel 4 would not even know they exist. Second I saw a lot more than 2 on that documentary. Finally and most importantly, as I said in my first post Trump is reflecting a growing opinion in the non Islamic world that is fuelled by the attitudes displayed by the subjects of the channel 4 documentary and the violence being enacted worldwide by people sharing the _iews aired on that program. That so many dismiss that violence and the mindset that breeds it so easily I find very disturbing and it reminds me of of the attitudes that allowed Hitler and the Nazis grow from a loony violent fringe group into a power that brought destruction to Europe.

"Islam is on the march.

This is a real threat to everyone

Forget it mate, you're wasting your time.

As they said on C4 last night, the black flag will be flying over 10 Downing street in our lifetimes. here's hoping Prof Hawking has got it right.

Which one? The anarchists? Pirates?

Dunno, which post do you think you are responding to?

Seriously?

You tell me

Well, who mentioned black flags? Given that my response was also about those, you would have thought that almost anyone could have puzzled that particular quandry.

Oh, wait...

Ah yes got it. In trying to be a smarty-pants you entered the realm of total obscurity.

QuandAry; a state of perplexity or uncertainty over what to do in a difficult situation.

Mate, why bring a cattypult(sic) to a gunfight

Really? Any fule kno that pirates have a black flag.....

Is Sarah Palin the kiss of death to the turds campaign? The other ignorant one who, last time around, claimed she could see Russia from the USA.

I do know the turd is given too much publicity - all for free.

Let him in and let the Brits wield satire to tear him to shreds. It has been said that this would send him home with his tail between his legs. Problem is, he just deflects reality. Nothing computes under that weird ass hair. Would he be too stupid to recognise humiliation and ridicule? I guess we can still help mark him out for the pointless freak he is in the eyes of rational, empathic, proper human beings.

Actually no matter how much I dislike Palin she was and is correct when she says you can see Russia from Alaska.

The island of Little Diomede is part of the state of Alaska, the island of Big Diomede is part of Russia, they are separated by less than 3 miles of sea. And for 4 to 6 months of the year the Bering Strait is frozen solid and without border controls you could drive across the ice. In fact during WW2 the USA sent supplies to the Soviet Union by that route...

Apparently it's rude to use satire and ridicule on somebody that holds firm beliefs... And mr trump really believes his shit!

Me I love being rude, so bring him on

In fact that gets very deep to the point... People who make outrageous claims, 50ft high walls being paid for by Mexicans, banning all Muslims from entering a country... Well they need these outrageous claims ridiculing.

No different than people who claim dead people arising, jihadist getting 72 virgins, daughters wearing dust sheets over their heads, the second coming (not the good type), the drawing of cartoons or mythical men watching Me Wank and getting upset about it..

It's all bollocks of the highest order and needs ridiculing!

"He said he wants a 'tempory' ban on them to find out who wants to come in.

I bet the people of Paris would agree.

But again the lefties have hijacked it and shouted racist like they always do. "

I doubt the people of Paris would agree and you don't have to be a lefty to know an opportunist demagogue when you see one.

"He's a bufoon but a very dangerous one. He preaches to the ignorant and uneducated who will think his ideas are the answer to all their problems.

Most rational thinking people will know you could never implement his ideas ie ban Muslims from entering the USA. He says things to get as much airtime as possible. That's what wins elections over there unfortunately."

It may win him the Republican nomination (although that's still far from certain) but I doubt he'll win the Presidency. From a party political point of _iew he is for the Republican party a similar, but far extreme, version as Jeremy Corbyn is for Labour here. There biggest appeal is to the more extreme wings of their respective party or even people who previously were considered too extreme to even be in their party. Neither has strong appeal in the middle ground and none at all with people on the opposite side of the left/right political divide. Without the middle ground and possibly some cross divide support you can not win a national election either her or in the US.

"How can you be racist about a religion ?

Do tell

You can't! You know that surely? He's still racist though.

Prey tell how anyone is racist for asking for a `TEMPORY` ban on followers of a certain religeon that is causing fear and avoc all around the world until checks are in order to find out who is coming in."

How would such a stupid ban work? Do they ask at arrival "Are you, or have you ever been a Muslims?". Do you really think Ali with his bomb is going to tell the truth? Do they just exclude people who are currently Muslim or anyone who has ever been Muslim? The world 'Muslim' actually means 'one who submits (to God)'; by that definition most Christians and many Jews would also have to be banned.

The whole idea is simply reticules and completely unworkable. It's clear to me that Trump is either an idiot or an opportunist demagogue. I'll go with demagogue myself. What really worries me is that some can't see this for themselves.

"Hello Bedbath,

"Prey tell how anyone is racist for asking for a `TEMPORY` ban on followers of a certain religeon that is causing fear and avoc all around the world until checks are in order to find out who is coming in."

At last, someone who listened to the whole of his statement. The majority only seem to think he was advocating a total ban.

It was a totally political point, as many Americans would ban Muslims and also he was putting pressure on the current administration. Idiot, I don't think so.

Alec"

I have heard the full speech, i know he said temporary, i still think he's an opportunist demagogue. I bad, unworkable idea is still a bad unworkable idea even if it's only meant to be temporary.

Did you read my post? I said you can't. I'm agreeing with you! I just said he's racist but not for what you are waffling on about if that makes it clearer?

Thats why I ask you to explain , I will ask again, why is he racist????"

Because of the remarks he made about Mexicans being rapists.

"Everyone with strong opinions on here aware of 'confirmation bias'?

You have your beliefs and only filter in information that reinforces your beliefs and ignore that which contradicts or disproves them.

Have any of you objectively considered the opposing _iewpoint? In this world awash with information at the touch of a button, statistics, propaganda, Google and Facebook users especially, are at risk of living in a filter bubble.

As a thought exercise in enlightening yourself, try justify the other sides argument to yourself. Only then will you understand how to communicate effectively with those of a different _iewpoint. "

I do this continuously. Sometimes it even leads me to change my mind.

Just an observation: You can make racist remarks without being a Racist. Note the capital letter.

If you pour hate on a group of people simply because they follow a certain religion then you are acting in a racist way. Racists use group hate to demonise specific groups of people for their own ends.

Hitler did it to the Jews although that is labelled anti-semitism of course. Actually as Islam is the brother semitic religion to Judaism maybe we should call those who hate Islam 'Anti-semitic' as well ... which means Trump is breaking UK law and the Home secretary has the power(and duty) to stop him entering the UK.

But as I said before we could have so much fun with the idiot even if he IS President....
