I never do the 1st Jan thing because I always relapse. So today is the day. Just worked out that it's 10 weeks to Easter and so springtime and littler clothes . I want to lose the last 3st this year.

If anyone else is out there that wants a diet/fitness buddy drop me a PM because I know I'll do better with someone else.

little house on the praire

I've got 5 weeks to get back down to what I want to be, hardly lost anything the last couple of weeks but the big lady event has arrived and as they are very infrequent they do mess with my body for a couple of weeks so at least I know why it's not coming off.

But I'm happily back in my routine

3 stone over the year is less than 1lb a week.

Plus the better weather is just round the corner when we don't feel like eating so much, you will do it

Are you asking a lady how much she weighs?! it's not about what the scales say for me in honesty. At the moment I'm a 14 and I want to be a 10. Going on me and weight loss, it's usually about a stone and a half a dress size.

I'm a 16 and I'd like to be a 12.

I'm 5'6 so a 12 I'd be happy with!

I have a sweet tooth though!

Especially at certain times of the month!

Good luck to the ladies starting today.

I'll start tomorrow.

Gulp.

Are you just doing it yourself or following a plan?

I've just done my first full week at slimming world and lost 5lbs but I have been craving crunchy nut cornflakes all week!

I also go to the gym 3/4 times a week for about an hour & 20 mins.

I'm with you on the big diet!

Want to lose 2 to 2 and a half stone by the end of the Summer. Interim goal, with Easter only 10 weeks away (only? ) is 1.5lb a week on average so just over a stone by the time I go to the England v Holland game on 29th March. Then the rest by around August time all going well..

We need to get everyone posting regular status updates so we can all motivate each other!

I was making soup at 6.50 this morning!!!

I have 14 weeks until I'm 40 & 24 weeks until my holiday to Zante which I've been saving for 3 years before booking

4 years ago I had lost over 3st with Slimming World, was a size 12 & 2st 6lbs lighter than I am now (having recently lost 9lbs of what I put on) but the ex left, I became ill & my meds gave me the munchies.

Now my kids are old enough to be left alone for an hour or so I've joined a gym!! It's killing me but I feel good!!!

At the start of the year set myself a target of getting to 15 stone 7 by the VA 5th Birthday weekend, which worked out at 2 stone in 8 weeks. Going ok so far, dropped 8 pounds in the first couple of weeks.

And a more sensible answer, now I'm not walking. Personally, my weight creeps up on me. I have to gain or lose at least 2 stone before I change dress size. My weight gain is always linked to my mental health - when my life feels a bit out of control, my eating and my weight gets the same way.

Anyway, last year I had 6 stone to lose, now it's 4. Whatever the reasons are for people's weight gain, maybe they should be encouraged for the fact they're taking control of it and trying to get healthier, not subjected to the usual patronising and unhelpful bullshit.

What started as a great positive idea about losing weight seems to be being bogged down and overtaken by the nasty comment and reactions.

I myself am aiming to just make my jeans a little looser again and get back out and about running and particularly cycling a bit more now that it's stopped being so wet everyday.

10 weeks to Easter, that's a good goal to work towards ~ slightly easier to break the year down into 'bite size' chunks I think.

I've given myself this year to shift the excess weight, tone up & get fitter in time for the big birthday year in 2017, eeek!!

Congrats to all looking to be happy with their own bodies. Regardless of how you go about doing that.

I don't think it's respectful to ask for reasons on their thoughts and actions. Dare I say it, it's nobody's business but the people who are taken these actions and making the changes they want, to make themselves happy.

I've just remembered I have a huge pack of kettle crisps from Christmas in the cupboard that I'd forgotten about.

Tesco started doing this snack thing, it was like sheets of sea sort of looked like green gelatine. Something ridiculous like 25 calories the packet but great for the salt fix but they don't seem to do them now

I completely forgot that I was going out last night but had slimline tonic so 'pretended' I was having a drink. I've batch cooked 2 huge vats of soup to get myself through the week and dip in to.

I made myself 3 days worth of breakfast lunch and tea on Sunday, so I don't have the choice not to have a healthy option! Need to repeat that tomorrow night or I slide into my old bad habits.

Depends on what your meals are & if you snack inbetween.

Breakfast like porridge / berried helps curb the munchies mid-morning

Diets are simple

Don't eat fat or food cooked in fat example chips

don't eat bread or pastry

Always eat breakfast

Don't eat to much fruit it's full of sugar

Try and eat little and often 5 times a day graze like a cow

Always have one cheat day but not the same time every week

Probably 2 or 3 slices of toast when i get up then if I'm working a proper breakfast 3 4 hours later then nothing till I stop at the Chinese on my way home but I'm out 16 hours on average and my work is very fisical. Some days I'm lucky if I stop for a break so constantly on the go. That's why it's a chinky on the way home.

I don't find this reliable either. My BMI will say I'm overweight. I'm moderately active, exercise 4 times a week and yet it still says I should lose 18.4kg, to be at a healthy mid range weight for my height. Absolutely ludicrous.

Nice one folks we started ours yesterday, making a big pan of vegetable soup today to replace our usual meals and back to the gym 3/4 times a week. I know its hard for some people to go the gym but try some home exercises such as 10 x up and down the stairs 3 times a day also sitting on the top step of the stairs and bump down each stair, good for the butt

Good ideas. There are plenty of options available to those who can't find time to go to the gym. Find a good programme on line or an app. Something like Freeletics or, for the brave souls, insanity.

When on weight watchers I'd allow myself one treat meal on a Saturday! Needed it to feel human!

This time I only need to lose 9lb's to get myself to ten and a half stone - if I go under that I get spaniels ears tits!

I've always found it harder to lose half a stone than more weight though - I think I just find it so much harder to get motivated!

Good luck everyone! Just think how much better we'll all look by the summer!

According to the BMI, at the height of his career Lennox Lewis was seriously obese. BMI only looks at height and weight, it takes no account of variations in bone density, muscle mass or body fat percentage.

There's no way you're morbidly obese, unless you've photoshopped the fuck out of your profile pics. I don't think you even look overweight, but then I like curvy girls.

little house on the praire

When I went to my doctors the other week I was giving him a check list and ticking it off. Basically we where joking about me being average weight and size in all the different catagories when it came to bmi although mine is in the healthy range he was really surprised that it came up as high as it did.

When I was at my heaviest he referred to my bmi along with other things to show just how bad it was.

However, he has never once mentioned my bmi as my weight was going down, never suggested a bmi to get down to.

What we used where blood test results, blood pressure ect.

Because I had so many issues it was pretty amazing seeing my results change, the reversing of diabeties was the best for me. When the weight started to come off and we where talking about a sensible weight for me to get down to going by my results and knowing me as a person he came up with 12 stone which would still have put me about 2 and 1/2srone overweight.

Everything I have lost since has been purely for me and nothing to do with my health (which is the reason I decided to lose weight)

There is absolutly no reason for me to !ose anymore weight the doctor has actually told me not to !ose anymore.

But the difference in my health has been the main indicator all along..

If you have a lot of weight to lose and its possibly for you to get a full check up with blood tests then the same after you have lost the weight it really shows now far you've come

I disagree to an extent. I feel overweight and according to the BMI calculator i am overweight. To be at the top end of healthy weight i need to be 10 st 11. O make that about right as i feel fairly comfortable when I'm under 11 stone. I think for most people it's a good indicator. Let's face it, most of us aren't athletes with muscular bodies. I wouldn't rely on it solely but i really don't think that is what it's intended for.

It's a good indicator for you, it isn't for some others. I'm not losing the 6 stone it says I should lose to be the "ideal" weight for my height, because I've been that weight, when I was a lot younger, and there was nothing ideal about it then, never mind now I have tits and an arse to add into the mix.

It's not just flawed for athletes, there's studies showing it underestimates the obesity of small people and overestimates the obesity of tall people by not giving enough credit to the height element of the equation. And focuses attention on one group of people when it might be better to look at a simpler measure like waist size which is a better indicator for type 2 diabetes.

So I stand by my statement, BMI can fuck off. I'm fat, but I'm not morbidly obese.

I agree. It's not a good indicator for myself either. I have been in the lower end of the "healthy region" for my height and I will say I looked a ill. Being at a heavier weight now, I feel better about myself and I look healthier. I also have an arse to add in to the mix haha. Yes,I want to trim down but I don't want to lose weight. If that makes me overweight, so be it.

And i said it wasn't a good indicator for all but some people don't like it because it tells them what they don't want to hear.

I don't disagree that there are better measures and i did say i disagree to an extent. So you are one of the exceptional people and I'm one of the average people. I think it works for average people. I stand by that."

"I guess it would be an idea to find out what Wight I should be and what I do weigh I don't even have scales. I've no interest in being the next shag but don't want to be a Michelin man ether

Just google bmi calculator and put in your height and weight and it will tell you where you are at?

Although its not particularly reliable tbh x

No no no! Don't touch BMI with a barge pole, it hasn't been updated since the 50's! According to that anyone over 8st is obese!

If you don't want to buy your own scales then you can use the ones in the chemists.

It's not just because it's not telling me what I want to hear. I'm not that heavily in denial. I realise I'm quite horribly overweight - I just don't think I'm so fat I should be eligible for a gastric band which is what my BMI tells me. If you think I'm lying to myself, that's fine - I think it's flawed for a lot of people, it's not just about me.

But do you ever just enjoy food? For its social aspect and its flavours and textures? I love that relationship that I have with food - in all its cultural contexts. It would make me sad to see it purely as fuel. Perhaps that's why I'm fat...

So where did i say you were heavily in denial and lying to yourself? I said some people....we already ruled you out as someone the BMI system isn't useful for, so you are making it personal where it wasn't intended that way.

I had an interesting conversation with a friend at work today about dieting and eating healthier foods.

She doesn't need to lose weight, she's very slim, but her blood pressure was very high so she's changed her eating habits to include foods known to reduce blood pressure and she said it came down drastically within a few weeks.

It just goes to show that being slim doesn't mean you're automatically healthy.

I'm starving now so off to cook some spag bol, low fat version

Same here. I like all foods as well, pizzas and curries and I have few a week too. I just limit them you know so I don't have to much of it, but yes I usually save it up so I eat them foods on weekends.

I've said before I don't bother with bmi. But there has to be some kind of method to use to put people into catogaries for and against having operations.

You seem to take bmi as something personal against you. What if they said (just an example ) everyone over 15 stone was eligable for a gastric band or some other measurement and you fell into the catogary. Noones saying you have to have one, all its basically saying you are now at a stage where your weight could cause you serious issues and we can be!p you(if you want to go down that route)

I didn't say I agree with it lovely! I've been eating healthily and exercising regularly for 16 years now - as I lost 3 stones at the beginning of the millennium - and yet I'm at the very top end of my 'healthy weight' range! As I said - I find that a little odd - and know that if I was at the lower end of the healthy scale I'd look seriously ill! I do think they need adjusting slightly - especially for taller people as you said - as every inch in height need greater bone density to support it!

And yes Ruby - I'd agree that no way are you morbidly obese! Xxx

"Talk on here about losing 3/4 stones.

That sounds so extreme, why wait til it's such a difficult task before getting off ur arse ?

Why wait until a weight loss thread to make snidey comments?

And a more sensible answer, now I'm not walking. Personally, my weight creeps up on me. I have to gain or lose at least 2 stone before I change dress size. My weight gain is always linked to my mental health - when my life feels a bit out of control, my eating and my weight gets the same way.

Anyway, last year I had 6 stone to lose, now it's 4. Whatever the reasons are for people's weight gain, maybe they should be encouraged for the fact they're taking control of it and trying to get healthier, not subjected to the usual patronising and unhelpful bullshit. "

There's always an idiot. If, he has nothing helpful to add then, best he keep quiet'.

Best of luck with your struggle. You're not alone and, most of us understand. My downfall was comfort eating when under stress so, have that t shirt too.

XxxI'd disappear before I got to the lower end of the scale, but just a curious question what does morbidly obese look like.

Me

Not a chance... I don't believe it for a second. You look great, pics are fabulous Miss Vara. "

"

Me lol I'm genuinely curious as two people can be same height and weight but proportioned differently. Would one look bigger than the other dependant on where they carry it"

It is possible for this to happen as it all depends on the type of body that each person has. Wether it is ectomorph, endomorph or mesomorph, each type will lose or gain weight in varying ways.

"Slim people in agreeing with BMI and fat people in disagreeing with it shocker. Hold the front page.

Well, whenever my BMI goes up, I know I have to lose weight. It's a good gauge for everyone to be aware of.

Well done you. "

BMI clearly works, you shouldn't be so upset about it. It should be seen as a tool to help you and not something that works against you.

Everyone can look different. Bustier would look bigger than the lean athletic types.

I remember Trinny and Susannah doing a bit on how they're both size 10s. Hard to believe if you're comparing them side by side.

You make a good point. I was bridesmaid for a friend a few years ago along with her sister. We are all big girls. They were both quite a lot taller than me though (not hard). Anyway we all joined the gym along with a few other friends and did weight watchers. I lost the l least despite doing a lot more exercise 6 or 7 days a week. They both lost a couple of stone. Anyway by the end of it they were both a stone or so less than me. The thing is though deapite being quite tall they looked a lot lot bigger than me.

The friend liked to tell evryone in the office how much less than me she now weighed. And eveyone was like wtf really?! (Sounds mean but thats what our office was like).

I think it was mainly cause they carried nearly all their extra weight round the middle. Where as mines spread all over.

I have a belly now but not a round one never had that problem despite how big i get. Mines more extra skin from pregnancy.

Anyway thats one exception to the being taller carry it better rule.
