Not that I've noticed...but then I don't look for one.

I know people all over the country and find people are people wherever you find them...there's a good mix wherever you go.

There may be more money down south at a guess but that doesn't translate to class in my opinion.

There is a huge divide, have you seen the clubs section. There are loads more clubs in the North. We hardly have anything where we live and we aren't that far from Brighton so you would have thought we would have loads of choice!

In relation to class, I would think you have a range of 'classes' in both? Wages are crap anywhere out of London. Cornwall has some of the most deprived areas in the country, you can't get much further south than that. wonder why ! Do you think the higher class down south are more snoby and won't alowe it or is it more behind closed doors down there ?

I have heard Brighton council aren't keen but there are loads of gay saunas, clubs of all other kinds. I think one club is having a swingers night occasionally.

One opened in either Portsmouth or Southampton (can't remember which) and was shut after complaints. I don't think Sussex has any apart from BGHS but that has a bit of a weird vibe, no alcohol, closes early and it seems lots of complaints about over strict management.

A fab couple are having their first party night next month fairly nearby. Apart from that you don't even really see socials up.

We tend to travel and make a weekend of it.

They do call the south coast 'God's waiting room' so maybe that has an affect on the scene.

In fact from threads on here it would seem that bloody Butlins in bognor gets the most action!

People are the same wherever you go. The usual mix of the good and the bad, the weird and the wonderful. They just speak with different accents that's all. Who cares about class anyway.

There does seem to be more cash flowing down south. Certainly economically a lot of things appear to be too London-centric which pisses off a lot of us Northerners. But then that probably pisses off a lot of Southerners too.

I'm not convinced that there is much left of the "class system." Sure, there are some wealthy people, but the vast majority of the population work for a living. Does that make the vast majority "working class," or do we then start differentiating by profession? By accent? By attitude?

I'm a Southerner living in the North, and after 20 odd years I still can't eat my chips with anything but salt and vinegar!

Both North and South have there pros and cons for me, but once I've gone down past the Watford Gap it's definitely still home

I grew up north on a council estate dingle mum then when early 20s met a fella went up south I did notice a big difference but the people were nice enough but there was a diffrent standard of living but that might be just that I led a simple life.... I spent my years in the Midlands going wow at everything lol.

There are friendly people everywhere and tossers everywhere! When we say were more friendly - I guess we mean we're more open to smiling at and having a conversation with random strangers! I'll often have a natter with the person next to me in the supermarket queue, on the bus, next table at a restaurant etc - and I'm generally on first name terms with waiters/waitresses etc by the end of a meal out!

I know that happens sometimes in the south - but not so much I think?

And in London - well there most people seem to walk round or stand on the tube desperately avoiding making eye contact with me! Had many 'games' just staring at people with a big grin on my face to see how they'll react! (Usually with fear!

Coming from a small village everyone knew everyone else. My neighbours would pick me up from school etc. Up here it's not really the same as it's a city though my neighbours offered to help me with my broken fence the other day.

I think there's a lot of variables but it just depends on the people.

Btw the definition of a cockney is a person born within a very small area of London not just a general London or South East accent.

in the mid eighties when i was on the road, a put on cockney accent seemed to proliferate throughout the whole of the south coast region from dymchurch to weymouth and as far north as the m4 corridor. these people got called mockneys

You should ride on a bus here (down south). I genuinely feel sorry for the driver for the number of times he/she has to echo, "Thanks." There really is not a north/south/international divide. Folks are folks. Born in the north, live in the south. I actually (posh word, I know) find the southerners less exclusive to be honest.

I have family in Oxford etc

When my daughter leaves university she's going to have to travel down south because no jobs up north

All opportunitis down south London etc

I went to Manchester but didn't finish my degree before I had her but she's going to have to travel to London if she want a good profession as Arctect
