"Give them a pat on the back or string them from the rafters by their goolies?"

I think the public embarrassment they have received should be enough. The people in question were immature and although I wouldn't sack them I wouldn't be giving them a pay rise.

the women who was the lines person had gone through all sorts of training to get that, job, probably with a lot of resistance by such people like yourself, she wouldnt be there if she wasnt fully competent in doing the job so to have her job questioned the way the reporters (off the record or so they thought), just shows that the male supporters of the sport are still living in the stone age

Well said Mally ! the decisions she made during the game were definitely to , if not above , the standard we currently have from all of the premierships male assisstants and referees this season !

Women will find it far to hard to succeed in football! it's far to male dominated! look how hard it was for black players in the late 70's and 80's! theres far to much aggression in football it can be extremely intimidating.

I disagree the games becoming to soft its a mans game and its a contact sport personally i would like it to be a bit more aggressive like ice hockey with the managers getting stuck in now that would be additional entertainment lol

i will own up and admit freely to knowing jack shit about footie

The woman in question is a professional and has worked her way up the ranks so to speak and has proven her worth in my eyes... she was right in her calling of offside

I think the guys should feel guilty about what they said because they put her down because she was a female who had power and control over a situation. They also verbally attacked other females involved with football. They were just expressing opinions and those commments should never have been broadcast.

We all say things between ourselfs that perhaps we'd not openly talk about in public situations. I think it is slightly unjust that they have been punished for it, and publically humiliated.

However i doubt very much the linewoman is even slightly bothered, she must have a thick skin going into a job that is very much dominated by men.. she's clearly aware that not everyone will approve. Girl Power i say!!

The thing is... when you are at work you have certain obligations to represent your employer in a good light and within the law. You can say what you like down the pub... though they would still sound like a pair of ignorant pricks.

How much additional pressure do you think women officials feel throughout their training and career because of twatty comments like that?

Exactly....the nly problem you have though is how far the women are offended.....most men in football take the piss out of each other, but it becomes sexist if it is a woman. If the women want to work in what is normally a mans work, then surely they want to join in everything.

( I am not taking about this one as they did sound serious and not taking the piss)

Andy Gray loves man u pmsl yeah right lol i dont see how or why this should fall into a sexist argument as well both sexes would.. are probably as good or incompetent as each other the argument wouldnt arise if goal line technology was introduced ..eg fat franks goal against germany in last world cup. ..and no this wouldnt fall into the realm of american shit SORKER (soz just cant refer to that "game" as football lol.)

Regarding keys and grays comments yeah there comments were outof line but i bet most males managers players in the game share the same thoughts ..just that there mics wernt on ...it is and always will be a male dominated sport and if women want to get involved in whatever capacity women simply need to tune there mind set to rolling with the verbal punches and the art of banter ..and lastly im a man u supporter and supported em back when we were crap so to all you man u haters awwwwww di dums boo hooo come an kiss me white naked arse lol

Yes,the assistant referee has earned her place in the premier league and keys and gray shouldn't have said it. at least not while their mics were on! truth is, most men at the ground or watching on tv were saying or thinking the same thing. most of them not in a sexist way but in a 'blokey' way. The old, with your mates "cor look at her,i'd give her one 'allo darling'" way.

Personally I think Keys may come unstuck by his comment about Karren Brady.

Now there's a woman not to upset.and I think she's great

In association football, an assistant referee is one of several officials who assist the referee in controlling a match. Two officials (traditionally known as linesmen) stand on the touchlines, while a fourth official assists administrative or other match related tasks as directed by the referee. A fifth official may be assigned as a replacement should one official be unable to continue.

Not Grays first offence, the majority of Production Managers at Sky OB units are female now, as are many of the VT Managers.

SIS Live also tend to employ more women PM's than men these days.

Is it just me that thinks the media has an arsenalcentric view rather than a manchestercentric bias?!

He annoyed me lots of times but I think this is pretty ridiculous. Must have refused to apologise since keys did today and hasn't been sacked.

Totally agree with u press are quite anti man u they banged on about arsenal winning the premiership (once) unbeaten yet never mention man uniteds dominance fr over the past decade. They also refer to man city as the mancs team of choice which is complete bull cos most mancs who go to games go to o.t as recently reported in a newspaper stating that most season ticket holders with a manc postcode go to o.t ..ow i loved pointing this fact out to me bitter blue m8 lol

She was slacking, she wasn't putting her mascara on too

Whoa! The testosterone is flying around early! Usually have to wait til pub chucking out time in the evening for this kind of high jinx...and all over a game of footie!

I envy you people - honestly I do, I wish all I had to worry about was what name to call a football official!

"i do think its getting blown completely out of proportion only because they made the mistake of sayin it in the studio when they thought their mics were off... would all this be happening if they had said it in the pub.... a slap on the wrist and the embarrasment of it all should be more than enuff in my opinion "

I take your point. They should have whispered it through a candyflossed pizza base or signed it to each other through the medium of dance and then it would have been okay xxxx

THEY ARE GUILTY! THEY WERE HEARD ON MIC ....

"we had the first femail ref to do a top level game at coventry last year...

she did really well but still took the piss....

just like anything new lol...

Exactly....the nly problem you have though is how far the women are offended.....most men in football take the piss out of each other, but it becomes sexist if it is a woman. If the women want to work in what is normally a mans work, then surely they want to join in everything.

( I am not taking about this one as they did sound serious and not taking the piss)"

Nope. Women don't mind having the piss taken out of them at all.

Sexism is not taking the piss out of a person .... It is institutionalised bullying where the scared will attempt to persuade others to exclude people solely on the basis of their gender.

Totally different to piss taking of an individual.

"Andy Gray loves man u pmsl yeah right lol i dont see how or why this should fall into a sexist argument as well both sexes would.. are probably as good or incompetent as each other the argument wouldnt arise if goal line technology was introduced ..eg fat franks goal against germany in last world cup. ..and no this wouldnt fall into the realm of american shit SORKER (soz just cant refer to that "game" as football lol.)

Regarding keys and grays comments yeah there comments were outof line but i bet most males managers players in the game share the same thoughts ..just that there mics wernt on ...it is and always will be a male dominated sport and if women want to get involved in whatever capacity women simply need to tune there mind set to rolling with the verbal punches and the art of banter ..and lastly im a man u supporter and supported em back when we were crap so to all you man u haters awwwwww di dums boo hooo come an kiss me white naked arse lol "

Why is it so difficult to understand ?

Women can and do banter.

It makes no difference if their mics were on or off. The comments were sexist and unacceptable. They were heard.

Women are atuned to taking flak , banter and rough verbals.

NO ONE HAS TO SUFFER SEXISM.

Throughtout all three of the threads on here its become clear to me that few people even know what sexism is.

Most seem to think it's any negative comment to a woman. It clearly is a lot more.

So now i guess im notjust ignorant im an ignorant sexist im not in fact either just as well im thick skinned. guess it does make me feel a lil nauseous as sexism cuts both ways i noticed in another post in a forum a woman say about meeting men " i choose to message men rather than be messaged by men, as i like to hunt my meat.

Now if a man dared refer to a woman as a piece of meat that man would be verbally hung drawn and quartered but cos its a woman saying its considered funny ????

If that was referring to my comment I actually said I was off to hunt 'my prey' - not 'my meat'. I didnt specify whether my prey was male, or female, or a bit of both...
