near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack!

At my local Tesco they discount on Monday evenings and there is the same old group waiting for the mark downs! They all seem to know each other by name, such is the amount of time they spend waiting for the goods to be brought out. The staff have to pull the items to be reduced from the shelves and take them off the shop floor to put the yellow tickets on, such is the amount of people waiting for them!

Although I live a stones throw from town centre and have several supermarkets to choose from, I only ever really use Tesco. Ours has a mark down about 10am then another one about 6pm. I think they continue to reduce them considerably towards closing time so that there's very little left at 10pm.

I find M&S do the best mark downs.

They mark things down to anywhere between 15p and 50p in my local Simply Food store.

I find Tesco and Asda don't discount heavily enough to make me want to buy it - 40p off a £4 item isn't really the mark down I'd expect if the alternative was it went in the bin

Do the retailers have a set price from HQ or is it 'managers discretion' as to what the mark down is ?

I've noticed this too. Supermarkets that are usually classed as more expensive do the better knockdowns. We've got a waitrose and a marks and you can get some great cheapies at the end of the day

M&S is the closest to me, but the stuff they mark down is not really what I would buy anyway. Very rarely go into Sainsbury unless I want something that Tesco doesn't stock or has ran out of.

We have a couple of Tescos near us. One discounts heavily the other doesn't seem to. Maybe it does depend on the time of day as sometimes there will be 2 or 3 reduced stickers on some items that have been reduced eventually down to 10p for example.

When they bring the reduced items out at around 7pm at my local Tescos, there`s very little left after the piranhas get their grubby mitts on it! Sometimes there is enough of some lines to get some really good discounts though! I once bought ten bags of carrots for my BIL`s sheep! They were 3p a bag!

Lidl reduced stickers are always for 30% off but they tend to do them a couple of days before the use by date.

Apparently lots of supermarket waste food is going into biogas production.

Possibly, but they usualy need to do something to render it unedible while its in the dumpsters waiting collection.

To stop freegans etc stealing it

Central

I tend to get the best reductions at Tesco too. Morrisons does good discounts on bags of mixed bread rolls for 9p or so for 5, so I'll often get those. They seem to largely start discounting the day before, with worthlessly tiny reductions.

little house on the praire

Generally in tesco here there's nothing left after they have reduced the stuff. But since they've had a butchers counter the meat gets heavily reduced.

But when they where closing for a couple of days at Christmas i saw them throwing stuff of the reduced counter into a binliner but didn't see what as wasn't close enough.

Morrisons do the best mark downs in my opinion. They end up selling stuff for less than 20p to get rid .
