"Resolution Frequency 640x400 70 Hz 640x480 60 Hz 640x480 75 Hz 800x600 60 Hz 800x600 75 Hz 1024x768 60 Hz 1024x768 70 Hz 1024x768 75 Hz 1152x864 75 Hz 1280x768 60 Hz 1280x1024 60 Hz 1360x768 60 Hz The above resolutions and refresh rates are supported on that model. Set your display resolution and refresh rate on the graphics card to one of those above." One of the first things I tried . It will show on the tv till it starts to load windows unless I leave it in safe mode. Then it works fine.

"Is your computer monitor DVI or VGA? I'm just wondering if when it boots into Windows if it's defaulting to DVI interface and not the VGA one? " It's vga. Its an old pc but works. Its my back up one but thought I'd just upgrade the monitor but thinking I am not going to be able to. It connects perfectly if I unplug the cable and put it in my big tv. So I know the pc is capable of using a tv as a monitor.. And I know the lead is okay. Thing is if using the pc I normally watch the tv while doing stuff. So do not want to use the big one as a monitor. Plus some things on fab are really not best viewed on 32inchs lol x

"When in safe mode resolution is usually basic check settings on TV think it has an option set both to same 720 x 480 then set colours available to 16 bit or less good luck . TV branded Hitachi but mostly rebadged bulk made tv's sold under various guises ." can't set it that low. But thanks. Haven't got an adapter and from all I have read it would be a waste of money as most don't work. Quite frustrating as I can not get to the nvidia card once in safe mode to make it find the hd tv option. Think I am going to have to give it up as a bad job. It was a good idea for a few hours. Back to the 17inxh screen I go

"Have you tried right clicking on desktop, graphics properties and setting the tv as a second monitor? " Can't click it as a monitor till its connected. As I am only connecting one monitor at a time. I've tried it on two other tv's and it won't on them either. My graphics card gives me an option to set it for tv but even with that set it only works as far as Windows loading or in safe mode X would say I'd upgrade to Windows 10 first and then try but its been failing to do that for a week. ( but then my laptop won't either x )

"I would boot pc with old monitor and have new monitor connected at same time. Then on old monitor go into screen properties. From their set up 2nd monitor as screen 2 Then disconnect first monitor and restart the pc" I can't , there is no way to connect two at once. Only have one connection on my pc for a monitor x

You can buy vga splitter wire from ebay for couple quid that allows 2 monitors run from one port, i use one on my works PC as run two monitors there

But yes technically it could be too old, however for minimal cost of a splitter i'd try that first before giving up

"query here do you have the nvidia drivers and not the opertaing system drivers for grahpics card normally your vga would connect to your tv direct via boot up if no other monitor is connected your receiving what you are due to the tv being out of range of your card you can try to force the card higher by setting your normal screen even higher some vga screens allow this 1200 x 900 something like that or higher your screen may not except it if out of range does your screens have hdmi at all or a dvi slot if this happens go in safe mode and uninstall your graphics driver and reboot on reboot it will reinstall it as dvi is compatable with hdmi direct not forgetting some cards have svhs as well to connect tvs up too " All drivers are up to date. It works fine on my 32 inch tv which is hd but not on the two newer ones. My screen has hdmi slot but my pc doesn't. I may try the splitters and see If that works but for now I'm giving up on it .

"my advice is find out your screen size by hertz by your make what it could be is that your graphics card dosnt support it buying the twin wire wont make a difference if you cannot change your screen size by hertz on the smaller screen some of the older vga screens went above 1900 x 1200 but wont run certain tvs due to the screen size at that point id be buying a dvi vga card instead " it's not worth me changing things .. I May as well get the splitter And when I want to watch movies via my pc. Use the big tv that works. I just happened to land a freeish tv ( brought two and got a 3rd thrown in as he couldn't find the remote or get it to turn on )... I mostly use the pc for word And maybe watching films I have stored online... So its not a big deal but just thought it should work.
