If 'business' I'd say yes. I have a light burgundy, almost red, paisley tie specifically for interviews, it's never let me down yet.

I always go for suit and tie. I prefer to always look smart at interview, plus I think it also makes you stand out if the other just go casual.

Assuming that it is not a job on a construction site (and that is not intended as a put down as most construction workers earn more than I ever did), the answer is yes, and I wonder why you had the need to ask.

It doesn't matter Whether it's on a construction or in an office..you only get one chance at first impressions because most potential employers make their minds up about you within the first few seconds of meeting you so wear the tie !! Nice crisp ironed shirt and polished shoes !!! X

Dude, if you really want this job, then you have GOT to make an impression. They say the first 10 seconds you see the interviewer, they already make their mind up. Not sure if that's true.

But if you cannot be bothered to make the effort, then you should just not bother turning up.

I didn't wear one for the second last interview I went for and the guy pulled me up on it and was a dick all interview after it.

They didn't give me the job. I wrote to him and blasted him for stereotyping and considering the job and the assessment I was there to do it was inappropriate item to be wearing.

Few days later he offered me the job.

Told him to shove it.

Well known National Bus company.

If you feel uncomfortable in it and it's not a requirement for the job why wear one? It's 2016.

In stark contrast, last interview I went for, the company told me if I ever wore a tie I'd be sacked! Lol

Default is always suit and tie:

And when I was interviewing; I always looked for clean shoes too.

Some companies are more casual at work;

But I would say you are not serious about wanting the job, because if you really want the job, you would have researched the company who are interviewing you, so you would already know.

One of the stock interview questions is

" what do you know about this company and what we do" followed by " how do you think you can contribute?"

If you could not answer that; the interview would end pretty damn quickly.

Best interview I did was for my plumbing apprenticeship.

First company i rang out of the phone book. 5 minute conversation ending in when do you want to start? I can pick you up Monday morning

Only left that job because I couldn't turn down the money offered at another place at 19 year old
