"Latest great idea....if it was workable I would totally support it! Companies banned from paying dividends if don't pay "living" wage. Sentiments all would agree with...practical? Most companies are "multinational" Many have headquarters in other countries Damn sure it would be against EU competition laws (I'm sure other forumites will enlighten us) Investors will run for the hills, share prices in these companies will crash, company goes bust, workers out of jobs, pension funds fall . I love this guys sentiments but I do worry if he is actually the full shilling!" . It is impossible for any worker to be underpaid . On a simplistic basis you simply leave your current employer and take a higher paid one elsewhere . This is assuming that you have marketable skills . Companies do not exist for the benefit of workers . Whilst workers are important , none are irreplaceable . It is shareholders who actually invest money and either gain or lose depending on the success of the company . Corbyn has no interest in either the British economy or the success of the country . He just wants to be surrounded by his hard left comrades . As he will never be elected to power , there are no restrictions on what he says no matter how ridculous they are . | |||

Exactly What people forget about wages and working It's a contract - you chose to work there for that money You can go whoever you want to work You have no say on what your company does - unless they ask you As much as you don't owe them anything they don't you This whole Union thing is a joke - holding the company to ransom - the investor put their money in - all the workers do is provide labour in exchange for money - doesn't give them control If you don't like your wage, leave | |||

Probably.....smaller businesses could go out of business due to not being able to increase prices and larger businesses that could increase prices means that we all pay more so the increased wage doesn't cover costs. No simple solution but as a majority of people appear to always be looking to buy cheap then this a problem that's here to stay unless that mentality changes. | |||

Because 1 organisation dominates the employment market so the other choices aren't there. If you look into it, by studying ACAS cases and tribunal rulings, the worst abusers of employee rights are usually government departments and local councils. | |||

Made in a speech to the Fabian Society (not renowned for their political balance). Just a "sound bite" to me ...but thought he wanted to avoid that kind of thing? | |||
