Not seen it, but saw endless repeats of the trailer over the last few weeks overseas. I'm interested in getting in to watch it.

Its a stunning movie and it must have been really REALLY hard to make it. Some of the photography is breathtaking but its also quite hard going in some places I think.

Funny you should mention it, I was just about to start a thread about it, myself. Had a quick search if someone else already had...

I'm planning on going in the next few weeks (Star Wars is first)!

Really liking the sound of the premise, although I wish I hadn't seen the trailer... reading a synopsis is sufficient to whet the appetite these days.

Cinematography looks fantastic, as well!

You're not wrong. I read today that filming was brutal. They started in Canada, but due to unseasonable warmth which melted all the snow, they had to move production to the Southern Hemisphere to Tierra Del Fuego (Top Gear: Argentina Special territory) to shoot the snow scenes.

The director also wanted to use as much natural light in the film as possible, which brought added time pressures, apparently.

It's hard to encapsulate in a few words how good it is. As you say the cinematography is amazing. I saw Star wars in 3D last week. It was good, over hyped. Revenant I'd see again, tomorrow.

If he wins full stop the world is broken..he's just a movie star..NOT a heavyweight actor..last year a 12 year old won..way back wen the world was sensible, actors of the calibre of Scott, Hackman, Brando, Lemmon, Nicholson, Finch, Voight, Hoffman and DeNiro won. And thats not even talking boutnthe actresses like Christie, Redgrave, Jackson, Streep and Spacek. A different, better world.. sadly today's generation of Leo lovers don't even know who they were...

Saw it today. Good story line, but 45 minutes too long. Don't know how DiCaprio can e en be nominated, let alone people think he's going to win. He had half a dozen lines all film.

The film itself felt like the director was being a bit over indulgent and obsessed with how good he is.

I wouldn't choose to see it again. Wish I'd waited for it to come out on tv rather than waste the money on the cinema.

Thus thread just goes to show people have thier own opinions, thier own tastes and just because you think ur right.... Or your opinion is the true one... It's not wholly true... Loved the film... And as someone mentioned the attention to detail was amazing.... But then actors are puppets.. They are told what to do how to act.. And go through many takes to get what the actual talent in good movies want... The directors

Bit of a snooze fest tbh the only good bit was the bear scene.

Not my kind of film anyway I was just wanting to see what all the fuss was about. Still not sure..

Thought it was really pretentious and got bored of watching snow drop from tree branches. It was pretty but that wore off really quickly. It was excruciatingly long and the story could have been told in half the time. I was getting more and more irritated by the silliness of it. Man goes into icy river time and time again, fully dressed, then gets out and drip dries in the snow and manages to stay warm and not get hypothermia by blowing on his hands.

The only thing Oscar worthy about it is the cinematography.

Ah I loved the landscape shots. Spent most of the time thinking 'ah I'd love to be there' in fact afterwards we agreed we'd head back to the Rockies later in the year

As with most films you have to suspend your belief, you're right all that frozen water and no hypothermia? Wet clothes not frozen solid by the morning? Silly but treat it as a popcorn movie and it's ok! But yeah, could have sliced 20 or 30 minutes off it!

Yeah some of it was beautiful. I was just disappointed that they went to so much effort to film in natural light and make everything as accurate as possible and then ruined it with such far fetched action and super human ability to survive.

I enjoyed the natural light and scenery immensely, film was a little too long. I read the book last year, which I could not put down due to compelling survival against all odds story and the absolute commitment to take revenge at all costs, this dynamic did not come through as well in the film.

Saw it a couple of weeks ago and kept saying to gf how much the Director tortured the actors by chucking them back into the ice cold water and in one of the more awful places to be let alone act. Great film based on a real story apparently.

Hmmm... just left the cinema after seeing this. I'm somewhat underwhelmed and disappointed... I expected great things.

The best scene was the opening fight scene and the fight with the bear. I was getting bored at times...

My biggest gripe, which I'm surprised nobody has touched on thus far was, I couldn't hear half of the dialogue throughout the film

The guy who left Di Caprio for dead (I never caught his name) needed subtitles. I barely heard anything he said!

Disappointed.

I didn't think it was realistic enough. There was no way he'd have survived that trek with the injuries it looked like he'd sustained, in that fight with the bear.

There's suspending your belief, yes, but, seriously some of it was ridiculous.
