BASTARDS! The MrWho's quitting smoking thread pt2

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

Seeing as the original filled up I thought I'd start part two.

I'd like to start by thanking everyone for their support and advice since starting the first thread. It shows that the forum can be a supportive place when it wants to be.

So I first started trying to quit several months ago by buying one of those £20 e-cig pens from a local garage. It started off OK, I drastically reduced the amount I smoked but it didn't satisfy my cravings totally and I frequently fell off the wagon and then shoved the stupid thing in a drawer and went back to fags.

Then, while wandering around my local town on the 27th of December 2015 I just decided on the spur of the moment to go into my local E-Cig shop and buy a proper set-up.

I came away with an Innokin CoolFire IV and E-Leaf Air GS-M tank with a selection of various liquids at 1.8% nicotine.

Since 13:00 that day I haven't touched a cigarette!

I've also upgraded my tank, twice! Firstly an Innokin I-Sub and now an Innokin I-Sub Apex and I'm using the .5 ohm coils with 0.6% nicotine 20%PG/80%VG liquid (numbers 1 and 3 from EcigBase).

My plan is to be nicotine free for the summer and by the looks of things that's going to happen.

I'm starting to feel the benefits of stopping the real fags too. Breathing seems easier and my senses of smell and taste have greatly improved. Anyone wishing to quit, take my advice - DO IT!

Sorry for the long post but I thought I'd share my progress and experience.

I was about 14 when I started.

I actually really enjoyed smoking but being a single parent I had to put my priorities in order and fags no longer featured in the equation.

Buying a proper set-up is perhaps the best £50 I've ever spent and it paid for itself within two weeks.

Fuck me it sounds like you was building an engine at first.

I'm getting to the stage where I'm not enjoying smoking anymore...which means in my head I'm at the point of giving it ago at quiting once and for all. I've smoked for a long time, but the enjoyment as gone,it's just a habit now...you have planted the seed now..so they work..

Did you quit cold turkey or are you using an alternative to reduce your nicotine addiction?

The chest pain is probably the crp beginning to clear from your lungs and the angriness is withdrawal.

Keep it up though...

Go for it.

Buy a decent vape set-up if you intend to go down that route, the cheap ones don't cut it. I also found that the 1.8% liquids are far too strong, even for a heavy smoker like myself, I quickly dropped to 1.2 and then down to 6.

Did you try a cheap (£20ish) one or a proper one with adjustable wattage etc?

The difference is huge and definitely worth the extra cost.

I can really recommend the kit I've got.

Innokin CoolFire IV box mod with either the I-Sub or I-Sub Apex tanks. Just be aware that both those tanks are sub ohm so the stronger liquids may be too strong. I found the 0.6% and below to be absolutely perfect.

Your car will be cleaner inside for longer too.. Bonus!

I've found that the key has been buying the right kit and finding the right liquids to make vaping pleasurable.

The kit I listed above has been perfect for me and the liquid I'm currently using is absolutely fantastic and only £1 for 10ml. Its the Cloud No3 (0.6% & 0.3%) from onepoundliquids and tastes of coffee, vanilla, coconut and chocolate. Its a really nice flavour and doesn't 'hit' the back of your throat harshly like the stronger liquids.

Well done mrwho and to all the others trying to quit.

Plus an extra well done for all the research you've done, especially with the doses.

I hear so many people go onto the vape and not try to reduce the dose at all, thinking they are doing so much better than smoking.

So how's everyone doing? Is quitting going well?

In have to say I'm feeling better each and every day. I've recently had quite a heavy cold and got over it much faster than I usually did when smoking and it hasn't left me with a horrific cough.

I know its early days but the benefits are already showing.

For those of you who have turned to vaping, my new Joyetech Cubis tank arrived the other day. You have to try one of those bad boys! Nice flavour, massive airflow, big clouds. It also comes with a selection of coils (0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 ohm) which is great because you can decide which you prefer before ordering new ones.

Its as mechanical as you let it get. I went into my local vape shop and asked their advice. Once I was happy with the kit I had I hit google and started to research it a little more in depth and have customized my kit to the point I'm very happy. I've kept the original box mod the shop sold me (the battery pack with the power settings etc on it) and changed my tank and coil set-up. Nothing more to it than that really.

Because I'm making my own liquids.

It's basically propylene glycol (0% - 30% usually). Vegetable glycerine (70% - 100%). Food flavouring and nicotine (2.4% - 0%). That's it, four ingredients. They're all basically the same.

Basically my new power box can control the temperature of the vapour and my new tank has customisable, rebuilable coils. Meaning I don't have to pay £10 every 5 weeks or so for ready made ones, I can build my own for pence and thy last for weeks each.

For those who're interested my new tank arrived today, a Geekvape Griffin RTA (Rebuildable Tank Atomizer) and I built my first coils too. 5 wrap non-contact 24awg kanthal clapton running 0.3ohms at 55w. Judging by how much wire I used I don't think I'm going to have to buy any more coils or spare wire for at least a year (I have over 50 metres and used 50mm, the coils should last 2 months).

If you're serious about your vaping I highly recommend this tank, just make sure your battery box (mod) can fire such a device...

"I've actually been meaning to ask how you're getting on with your new kit?"

The new mod (battery) is brilliant it makes all my tanks work even better because the current is regulated much better and it's an instant fire.

The new Griffin RTA tank is epic. I love that I can build my own coils of any size, resistance and wire including kanthal Clapton which is a first for an RTA. Then only downside is that bit eats batteries, especially on variable temp mode but that's a small price to pay although I may look at getting a Joyetech Cuboid soon, thatbway I can run any could in temp mode..
