Just watching the cricket and an advert came up for a weekly magazine that contains a part each week to build a model Ford Mustang. Now the magazine has 100 issues at £8.99. So that's nearly 900 quid for a toy car and it will be completed just before Christmas 2017.

I know there are many, many different variations on these magazines, from model boats to zippo lighters. My question is though, who does them? And does anyone actually complete the models? And lastly, in the example above, how do they fill 100 magazines about information on a Ford Mustang?

I just have this vision of some guy waking up on a Thursday morning, rushing round to the newsagent to get the next piece. Coming back all excited as he has got a head light!

And I wonder what the first part is? A seat? October 2017 is wheels month....,

And here is me taking the piss, but I'm the one watching the cricket.....

Central

Aren't these sold on a similar basis to gym memberships, where they don't expect to have people continue to do much but pay up for a while, whilst making big profits? By week 3 or 4 the user base will plummet but a lot will buy them for kids. (who won't be that arsed to glue it etc).

When I was younger I got excited by a things in mags.

Here's a thought then. Supposing you start with a thousand buying the magazine. That drops to 500 after 4 weeks and gradually falls away. At what point does the magazine say it's not worth publishing anymore? And what about those few people that have a half finished model?
