Any software devs on here?

Yes I know, a rather strange question to ask on a site like this, but this is a social forum, and I've noticed there seems to be a fair few people on here into their PCs and software.

I'm currently working on a personal project, and need a developer to help me - without going too much into specifics just yet, are there any on here who could perhaps give me a few pointers on how to hire one, preferably near Coventry?

Don't you know all devs are currently out partying ?

But what software devs are you looking for ?

We can be specialised or specific

Very well, someone who can help me in the development of an independent game.

A fair few work in IT related fields - not me. You can also hire freelance staff or get work done remotely.

The Visual basic C++ compiler is a good one to execute your programs on.

Platform?

And if you have zero skills yourself remenber that employing somone to develop a game for you (textures, models, engine etc) is going to be very expensive.

Like tens of thousands expensive

That will depend on how big my project is of course.

"That will depend on how big my project is of course."

And if you can license stuff.

What platform are you hoping to do it for?

Guessing mobiles?

If so head to an android dev forum to recruit.

But dont do the old "oh if you do it for free I'll give you a percentage" lark

There are a number of websites where you can out out your requirements and get bids on what price people are willing to write it for. But you obviously need to be specific,

If however you ate looking for an entire game to be written fom scratch, even a small one then you need much more than that can provide. so you may be looking at a full time employee.

It's intended for a PC release.

I'm thinking of recruiting from my local University, to keep my own costs down, and give them some paid work. The intention isn't to build an entire game at this point, simply a demo.

I don't know how it works over there, but here if your set up with the college the students may be able to earn credits as an intern.

I think using good student expertise is a good option. They can help you write the specifications etc, as well as develop something further, such as a demo.

Commercially having a very precise product specification is really important, coupled with the right contract for delivery.

Do we get to hear more about it? An online dogging and swinging game, with the winner achieving 'hardened' swinger level

That's why I think it's probably a good place to recruit from, both in order for me to save some money, and the chance for a student to get some experience as well as a bit of extra cash.

I can't give many details about the game away though I'm afraid...anyway, it'd be kinda of awkward having comments all over my Kickstarter saying 'I'll pledge you some money if you fuck my ass!'

Look at GitHub too. Lots of open source software already exists. Perhaps you can even network with developers on there.

Thanks for the tips, I'll check those out too, but I must stress the importance of me working with someone local, I want to be particularly hands on with the development process, as I have a very specific idea of what I want this game to be.
