Anyone worth American mates? This stands at $1.5 billion.

I might be tempted to buy a round if I won that.

I have friends buying tickets in the US. I tried to talk them out of it, but there's no rationalizing with people

Hereabouts

After tax and everything, they end up with fuck all compared to the 1.5 billion. Unless they take it in instalments over the next 29 years

Ok, so the

* UK lottery is about 14,000,000 to 1

* Euromillions is about 116,500,000 to 1

* My chances of being struck by lightning are about 300,000 to 1.

.

Nature can be so cruel

Think I could deal with installments of over $30m a year

"What are the odds on the jackpot?"

If you drive a mile to buy a ticket, you're 8 times more likely to die than win the draw.

Buying one or two tickets would be ok, but I get the feeling your friends are buying buckets full

Even if you take the lump sum, you still go home with over 50% of the jackpot (35% federally tax, state and municipal tax depends on where you live - but it would be no more than 13%).

I could do with $750 million.

It's more the odds of winning the jackpot as a sole winner that I find troubling. Let's not forget, lottery jackpots are built on the money of those who lost.

Ok, so the

* UK lottery is about 14,000,000 to 1, now 45,000,000 to 1 since the extra numbers.

* Euromillions is about 116,500,000 to 1

* My chances of being struck by lightning are about 300,000 to 1.

When the jackpot was 1.3 billion, after tax the winner would have walked away with 895 million dollars. Oh yeah, not worth bothering with now is it.
