I'm 99.99% certain it's possible to get someone to kill. Especially if you're Derren.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

The theme bothers me a lot. I won't watch it as I really don't want find myself egging on the potential of killing someone.

I haven't seen them but it feels like the television equivalent of The Hunger Games or the Maze films. Once we start seeing getting someone to the point of killing another human how long is it before we start wanting to see just that little bit more?

It's an interesting revelation of people who have an authoritarian personality and social influence/compliance.

I understand your perspective Lickety, though I feel on balance it's great to have evidence of what we can be influenced to do put out for wider knowledge.

I understand that.

I do wonder if the programme was suggesting he would get people to the point of wanting to kill a pet what would be the outcry from the general public?

He always does stuff that's controversial.. He fucks with people's head.. Of course it's controversial. But I find it really really interesting. There's always a chance of TV influencing people.. I don't think it'll turn to hunger games type thing but yeah I can definitely see where lickety is coming from... But that extends to things like video games.. Especially with them being so lifelike these days.

I'm watching it because I don't think it will ever push me to kill someone by watching it..

I don't for one moment believe you watching it would push you, or anyone, to kill someone.

My worry is that it creates a desire for the next big challenge, which would be to see someone pushed to that edge and going through with it (otherwise where's the real proof?).

I do completely see your point. And I'm severely hoping that it never happens and that he actually brings that up in this episode although I doubt he will. So far I'm heartbroken that the guy has been through this shit and I genuinely want the experiment to 'fail', ie he doesn't do it.

The right place

I was at university with Derren. He was a bit strange. He used to wear a cape around the hall of residence. I liked him.

The show is interesting.

I'm actually finding it quite interesting. Im slightly biased though as I've always liked him and enjoyed seeing one of his live shows too.

Bit disappointed that it's not been using Derrens influence, apart from the set-up.

But it does show how we are all open to being influenced.

I'm most shocked to how it passed ethics? If you know or look up the Milgram experiment it is a little similar and that experiment brought in a lot of ethics and one is that you can't have people participate within an experiment without knowledge, or cause them physical/emotional damage. I need to look into this.

Consider noticing how you are influenced by others in Fab.

We are all open to being influenced.

For example, if you tell a woman that she is ugly, then if you tell her every day, she will soon believe you and she will regard herself as being ugly.

likewise, if you tell a woman every day that she is beautiful, then eventually, she will believe you.

From what I hear, there is a steady stream of young men travelling to Syria to be influenced.

I have absolutely no idea about Derren, I have never watched any of his programs, but from comments I've read above, I'm perhaps happy with that.

I do read a few conservation websites, a few pagan websites and I noticed how spectacularly London smashed it's annual pollution targets for this year.

Influence?

Not my thing at all. I remember watching the Russian roulette one. Very very dull.

He is no doubt talented at what he does but just remember it's entertainment not a science experiment.

I didn't like the roulette show at all. You're right that it's entertainment, which he largely masters now.

The big message in tonight's show was the massive power of social influence. And that it's valuable for us all to remain as aware as we can upon why we're responding in specific ways, due to their influences.

3 out of 4 participants pushed a man off a tall building. It was a safe setup, no one injured of course.
