I need a little advice...

So, Valentines day is approaching and I am looking to treat someone special but have no idea on what to buy or where to go...

Gift ideas; jewellery, flowers, chocoaltes, novelty gifts, perfumes??

Where to go: Restaurants, Theatre, Spa Day etc.

What would be your idea gift/day?

It depends on the person. I would say some type of personalised gift basket. Some prefer flowers or chocolates of lingerie but I am not into any of that ...

You could try flying them to Bruges, wining and dining them, going on a tour of the sites (including the chocolate shop - they like that one), before going down on one knee in the back of a horsedrawn carriage and asking her to marry you.

Natch mrs ddc turned be down, but I'm nothing if not persistent.

We used to do all the citybreaks on Valentines, Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, etc. These days of easyjet and internet hotel sites it can be quite cheap

Quite special? Is she on here too or not special enough for you to be exclusive?

Some people read a lot into the gifts and things that happen on Valentine's Day. If you buy her a ring it may be seen as an engagement ring, for instance.

If you really want to tell her she means a lot to you then something personal and thoughtful that shows you have been listening, noticing what she likes and that will mean something to both of you.

A couple of years ago I got bunch of flowers delivered to my door. Nothing fancy but the colours were ones that the person knew I would like. He had remembered me saying over a year previously that I'd never had flowers sent to me from a lover - ever. Him sending those flowers and making the choice of colours made it the best present ever.

Be thoughtful and you can't go wrong. When it comes from the heart it shows. Even if it's naff it's forgiven because it has come from the heart.

City breaks sound good however Valentines day falls on a sunday this year and it may be difficult for us to both get time off work

I was thinking of hiring out an apartment, cooking her a meal, then perhaps heading out?

Or going out to a nice restaurant.
