Two scenarios:

Earlier this year Andy was in the Middle East and everywhere there were immigrants. Taking the jobs of the local Arabs. Demanding pay and health and all sorts.

Second:

Last night we were heading home from the pub. Our taxi driver was from Iran. I don't recall the last time I was driven home at 1am by a white Brit. This guy was all smiles and happiness as if he was happy to be driving around at 1am. He is a Muslim and doesn't even drink when he is driving.

What is this country coming to?

What is the world coming to? When people can travel the globe and get an honest job in a place they WEREN'T EVEN BORN and make money for their families.

What has happened to us?

Well there are lots of says of looking at this. My parents were immigrants after the war...always worked...bought a home...unskilled...etc. I'm very British...not the culture of my parents. There is mass migration in the world and the UK like most counties has it's fair share. Two things...first practical....farms...warehouses..factories..the NHS....hotels have lots of immigrants working in them. A lot of Brits just don't want to do this work...and unemployment has not really risen despite immigrantion. Secondly...are we not moving to a world where nationality is less relevant...a global world...one world...that's probably one of the biggest things that will reduce the risk of ww111....that we all interact and co exist...not hide behind national boarders and national identity.

Brits go to other countries to work (including the OP by the sound of it) and others come here... Not sure what the problem is myself. It's been happening for hundreds of years and is just easier than it used to be.

I'm an immigrant and not claimed a single penny. I'm sure the indecent amount of tax I pay helps to go a long way. I love living here but do play by the rules which I think is important to note when talking about any immigration.

Although because my skins pale I often get told I'm the right kind of immigrant which makes me laugh.

You need more taxi drivers then. Once there are too many watch their value go down.

Same for anything with a financial value, too many of them and their value goes down.

It wasn't me who gave the supposed immigrant that position. The phrasing of no one else wanting the job, only the immigrant wanting to do it and being happy to work all hours gives the impression that the OP considers it menial and beneath indigenous Brits.

My grandad came over to the uk from Poland after the 2nd world war an stayed in the uk an met my nan an married my nan. An i was taught to embrace different cultures growing up. I dont get the argument. By the op

i was introduced to different culture, food an i feel my life was enriched by eating different food, learning about my grandad an even now im still curious about my grandad where he grew up. I miss him as he passed away in 2004.

I was taught acceptance an my grandad was very hard working...an i learnt things from my polish grandad

so im proud to be part english/welsh/polish

No you can take it from me. The OP is not a racist. His grandfather is from Germany (now Poland) and he was brought up eating from different cultures and learning about them. I was taught acceptance an my grandad was very hard working...an i learnt things from my polish grandad

so im proud to be part english/welsh/polish

My family history is almost exactly as yours is.

Hence why I was making a ridiculous point about immigration. To show how ridiculous the viewpoint, which the OP portrayed, actually is.

I embrace my culture an proud to have had a polish grandad..an to me op sounds a bigot tbh an racist

im so glad to have been taught acceptance growing up an proud to have my polish grandad in my life

However being born in a place does not make you superior or worthy of more rights than someone who was not born there?

someone should remind the OP there are approximately 2 million uk citizens plying their trade overseas in just the EU alone

then add those working in lets say the middle east.. and the us/canada... and australia/new zealand....

so please lets just not pretend it is all going one way.......

secondly... the dirty secret is that the a lot of people who do these jobs are doing things some of the natives would rather not do.... or for example at unsocialable hours....

I admire any man or woman who goes out to work and pays taxes and has a good life because they work hard for it immigrant or not. What I don't like is the likes of taxi drivers, bar staff labourers and many EU "SELF EMPLOYED" WORKERS who don't pay taxes however they use our schools, NHS doctors and other public service and our benefits system, all we provide for free, be they eu immigrants or brit citizens. You only have to look at the state of our services to date, even though it stated immigrants provide to our state this is based on the number working in this country NOT on the taxes they pay if they pay them.
