East Anglia

I know I am going to regret posting this, but I feel so lost and I have nobody to talk to.

I'm about to lose my job after being off sick for a year with depression. I am up to my eyeballs in debt. I've only just got up today because I didn't want to face the post. Yesterday's said I'm nearly £300 in arrears on council tax. Today's said I'm £221 in arrears on the water bill. I spent all day yesterday at the council offices. Literally begging.

I used to be a well respected, well paid member of a community. Married for 20 years, 3 great kids. Now I'm a single mum begging for benefits, with no friends. Whoring herself on a sex website for a bit of attention and fun.

I have an amazing boyfriend - who will be very cross when he reads this, but he's not here. He's never here. All I want is a cuddle and someone to tell me they love me and its all going to be ok.

But the reality is that it isn't. I hate my life. I hate myself.

For the haters out there - don't even bother. I know what you're going to say.

It's a harsh reality but unfortunately only you have the power to make things change. Asking for help isn't something to be ashamed of neither is having a mental health issue. You have a family. Kids who love you. That's more than some have. Do it for for them if no one else. Get the help you need to get well and be the person you used to be. It can be done.

It may seem everything and everyone is against you right now, but it won't always feel that way. You have done the right thing and gone to the council office, they are there to help.

I can't comment on you're job and being sacked.

I hope you feel better if only slightly getting it off you're chest.

I've so much paperwork to go through. I'm an intelligent woman, I've a degree and post grad qualifications. I used to run a whole department. But apparently filling in benefits forms is beyond me. Actually being able to focus long enough to read them is beyond me. I shouldn't have got up today.

Have a big hug!

Contact an organisation like stepchange.

They were very good with me when I had debt problems and they provided help and knowledge to get me back on the right track.

The Citizens Advice were brilliant at helping me with debt problems when I split with my ex (50 thou) - it might be worth seeking their help.

You have to tackle things one step at a time - otherwise it's just too much to cope with.

Sending hugs and if you want to chat would be happy to.

First of all advice coming from someone that worked for DWP for 7 years.

Get a sick note from your gp, make a claim for ESA today!! You should get the reduction on your council tax because you're a ingle parent. Concentrate on that one because it's a priority debt and can go to court and all other shit you don't want to deal with. Water can fuck off for now, out of all the utility bills water is the only one that the jobcentre wouldn't issue a crisis loan for because they will never cut off your supply. Leave that one till you've sorted everything else. Benefits wise you'll get ESS for depression, child tax credit and child benefit for the children. Dunno if you rent or own the property? Rent you can get housing benefit if you're in receipt of a means tested benefit, you'll qualify for income and contributions based ESA.

Right emotional advice, you've got 3 kids and when they come back from school they don't want to see their mammy upset so you've got to let this go over your head. It's Friday, offices close, no post on the weekend, deal with this shit Monday (do the ESA claim now though!) you aren't whoring yourself out on here, even if you do use this place for some compliments or attention don't you think that's better than going to a nightclub and sleeping with random people to temporarily make you feel good. Use this place for whatever you want and however you choose, talking to people will make you feel better.

Don't put your happiness in the hands of an undependable man. This afternoon when you get back home, shut the door take your bra off, put pyjamas on and just have cuddles off your kids.

Not pathetic at all. I'm fairly certain most people have felt similar to you in their lives at some point - I know I have.

Please remember that what you're feeling now is temporary, however unlikely that feels at the moment. You've taken a big step by even being able to talk about it on here. Sorry I can't give more practical advice but hopefully someone on here will be able to help.

Nice to see sound and practical advice as well as support.

I've nothing to add to this advice, it's first class. As many others have said, things will improve over time.

Fab is a good support network at times.

Sounds like a nightmare, I think they make forms too complicated at times especially when you're feeling down and can't function properly.

Some great advice given already ~ all I can add is when I feel overwhelmed I write a list of priorities and then I try and break it down into bite size chunks.

Hope you get back on track soon x

I could bang out an ESA claim online if you wanted me to call you and you give me all the details over the phone. They would call you back then to complete it. It's really personal though, they wanna know the ins and outs of a cats arse.

If you do it online yourself you could message me privately if you're stuck on anything? Just have details of the illness, you need a sick note off your gp name and address of the doctor and surgery. Previous employment details, name, address length of time there.

There are charities to help with debt and companies can be very understanding when you explain your situation. Don't leave it until the debts go to collection agencies, you'll cost yourself more money and stress than need be.

OP, debt wise ive been in your shoes, you dont need to beg, get an appointment with citizens advice, they will break down your incomings and outgoings and negotiate realistic payment plans with those you are in debt to, its a long road, but you will see the light at the end of the tunnel.

With respect to your "great" boyfriend, OP, I'm sorry but if he is never there then he isn't so great, also if he was so great you wouldn't be on here looking for other men.

I think OP, you need to take a break from the site and from your boyfriend, ring citizens advice and sort out your finances, thats your first and most important step you need to tackle

I've done all if the above. I applied for esa, but they want 600 bits of evidence as do step change and legal.aid.

I cant call my man undependable - he works away and has other priorities. I come third. That's ok.

My kids are in their late teens. The eldest hates me because of the situation with his father. The middle one won't come home, he is staying with his gf's family as the atmosphere here is too stressful. The youngest is the only thing keeping me going.

I know that's why I said it is so personal and even though I wouldn't do anything sinister with the information and would treat it like the 1000's of other claims to benefit I've processed over 7 years, I am essentially a stranger so can understand how stupid the idea was now on reflection.

I think you have fantastic advice on this thread, it is now over to you to own the actions to get yourself back to an improved.

The GP to ask for some help

The Citizens Advice

The DHSS

and I will sound harsh for a second, stop meeting on here as if your situation is as bad as you describe, MFM are your least priority.

GOOD LUCK I hope it works out for you

"First of all advice coming from someone that worked for DWP for 7 years.

"

Brilliant advise ,hugsxx

A GP appointment should be first priority.

OP, you can self refer yourself for talking therapy if you feel you would benefit. Look on Google for how to go about it. MIND offer urgent help too.

Good luck, sometimes it's difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel. However, I think by posing you have just taken the first step - which is always the hardest, now for your and your kids sake you need to take the second step. Users have given really good advice, so take it.

Stay strong, because you are, you've already demonstrated that by posting - hugs and kisses

Hope this helps Edric x

"I know I am going to regret posting this, but I feel so lost and I have nobody to talk to.

I know what you're going to say."

Hi was going to PM you but can't.

Depression is a terrible and debilitating illness. It's needs recognising and treating that's first. If you haven't seen anyone go and get referred.

Then you can start on the practical difficulties. Make a list of stuff you need to do, organise them in to stuff you can sort in short and medium term and stuff you need help with. Go and see debt advisor and citizens advice they will help massively. Insist you get referred to some talking therapist not just meds, they should have an APT service or similar don't be fobbed off with GP and a prescription.

You're never as alone as you feel, and you're always stronger than you think.

Take care and keep talking

Thank you for all your kind words.

I'm.not going to lie and say that I've spent the day on the phone sorting things out. The truth is, I upset my boyfriend on the phone because he read the post, and I went straight back up to bed again. (this means that I'm probably going to be on the forums all night!)

However, I read every message several times and it has helped to put things into perspective.

Its not a magic cure all, but I do feel able to get up now. (given that it's 7pm, its about bloody time)

I'm going to slap my.false smile back on my face and cook the kids some dinner.

Anyone wanna join us for beans on toast?

Reading the messages on here has restored my faith in the fab forum sometimes it's easy just to see all the wankers and idiots - but the outpouring of concern and warmth in this thread is heartwarming

I think OP, you need to take a break from the site and from your boyfriend, ring citizens advice and sort out your finances, thats your first and most important step you need to tackle"

Please don't judge my boyfriend harshly. We don't live together and ge works away. He has kids he has to provide for and works all the hours he can to make sure they have what they need. I cant fault him for that. I wish my soon to be ex husband felt the same way about his kids.

My bf gives me support and advice over the phone. And he found the time to cum to court with me on Monday.

None of this is his fault. Its mine and mine alone. I made choices that lead to this. With good reason, but I made the choice to leave an abusive marriage. This is the consequence.

You may wish to seek some advice from women's aid due to being in an abusive relationship they can offer you emotional and practical support, I understand how hard it is to leave an abusive relationship sometimes talking about how you feel helps you with the negitivity. I think you could also benefit from some councelling.

If it is any help you are not alone.

I went through divorce and ended up substantially in debt...scraping round for somewhere to rent and for a period suffering from depression and briefly jobless due to the stress/depression.

There is little I can add to the advice given here regarding the various charities and C.A. (Who I found very useful...so do persevere).

The best thing I can say is to prioritise what you need to do. Do this for your children, if not for yourself. They are the most important thing. And once prioritised do things one at a time. If you try to do too much it can overwhelm you...particularly given your depression and feeling of isolation.

Big hugs coming from here...and from all your fab friends! xx

Women empowerment

Extension of women's rights

I'd you own your body and can do what you want with it

Not beholden to to men who tell you you can't

It's a strand of feminism that shows women are fully in charge and sex isn't just for reproduction

You need to contact Stepchange on Monday to sort out your debts, it's a free service and the staff are lovely and really helpful. If the council take you to court and you're working at the time, they can apply for an attachment of earnings which is not something you want.

And sorry to hear things aren't great, sending hugs your way xxxx

You made a cheap joke of it which I would consider to be highly inappropriate in the circumstances .

No one said that you are not allowed an opinion , however yours does not provide any assistance to someone suffering from depression.

Not spoilt actually - I fund my own life

My parents made me stand on my own two feet and earn everything I have

It's why I have a strong work ethic and can enjoy what I have earnt

I don't agree with giving kids everything and not having them work

I do have compassion - never said anything horrible to the lady

Evening Hun I was going to private message you but you have men blocked. Firstly you say you have a wonderful boyfriend but he's never there?? Hmm is he really that wonderful or are you telling yourself that thro fear of being alone?

Now the important stuff, you have not mentioned what if any benefits you are on, but if you are suffering depression and are being medicated for it you can claim PiP the new form of disability.

You are entitled to this and it's very easy to claim, can take a while but will all be backdated. If you drop me a message I'm more than happy to help you.

Are you in a council property? You could apply for a housing and council tax discretionary payment, again it's easy to do and I'm more than happy to help you.

Finally, deep breathes, depression is a mental health problem, 1 in 4 people suffer with some form of it. We all deal with it differently.

Any help I can give you I'm more than happy to, I have experience with housing and benefits so can help you xx

Did you read the OP's comment on "whoring" herself out on here for attention? Did you read the bit about coming from an abusive relationship?

Do you think this is the comment of someone feeling strong enough to deal with the shit of selling herself?

Yes, escorting can be empowering for some but you have to start from a position of confidence and strength and not from a position of vulnerability. Putting oneself in a position where you add to the stress of your life, dealing with potentially dangerous situations and where you might face abuse similar to that you have just left is not to be recommended when vulnerable.

That's why your opinion was poorly thought out and should not have been posted.

I have lots of experiences. If you are suggesting that any of my experience is in me personally escorting or prostitution then you would be much mistaken and, again, your comment is ill-advised.

The only thing I can add to the great support that's been posted (in general) is this. You'd be amazed at how lenient companies (including the local council) are if you just speak to them. All they need to hear is that you intend to pay, whether that's tomorrow or over time. I know people who've been in worse places and bounced back. The one thing you absolutely cannot do is hide (easier said than done I know). There are companies who claim to help but they just make the same phone calls you can make yourself? My advice is speak to your creditors and you will get results!

Back to giving the OP attention!

Hunny you are juggling lots of balls in the air right now. Take time out. Do something to clear your mind of all your troubles. It could be listening to music, watching a film, baking (yeah even at this time of night.

You're probably tired but not getting enough sleep so distraction techniques might help.

Over the weekend grab a pen and paper and write down what you need to do, rather than keeping a mental list. Include the little things as well as the big things cos depression affects cognition and memory.

The list may look daunting but the idea is for the jobs to be on paper and not in your head. Do what you can and those that you have to leave for another day, don't fret over. As you cross items off, see them as acts of achievement.

Have you a good relationship with your GP and have you had a recent re_iew since being signed off work?

This was a lovely thread showing genuine support and caring it is now getting silly.

As I have said OP you can claim for a lot of help, yes it means form filling but I am happy to help you there. There are certain things to put down to ensure you get the help.

Another idea as your having problems with forms is talking to the CAB about a DRO, it costs £70 bit wipes out your debts, not sure about rent arrears. CAB deal with this, you just give them gne debts x

"This was a lovely thread showing genuine support and caring it is now getting silly.

CAB deal with this, you just give them gne debts x"

A what? DRO? What does that stand for?

I won't overload you with to much info as a lot has been suggested on here. A faster way to get help is to telephone your local mental health team ( most hospitals have one) down here it's called the crisis team. Explain you are struggling they will send someone to see you usually the following day. All mental health teams have specialists in debt. They will either do the forms or help you with the forms.

As I've said any help or tracking down numbers inbox me n I'll help you x

Not sure how it works now, it used to be a case of legally they only had to pay you for 28 weeks after that they could let you go.

It is complicated. I can't really talk about it here. I did manage to contact my union and they are helping, but the upshot will be I don't work there anymore, but I won't technically be sacked. Essentially it equates to the same thing though.

Yes you can be sacked if you are off sick - for being off sick. There is a bit of protection under the Disability Act but if you've been off for a year it is reasonable for an employer to consider their business.

The better action is to work with the person to help them back into work, supported and phased, but that isn't possible for every employer to even consider.

A DRO is a debt relieve order, it's a form of bankruptcy for those who owe under a certain amount. I believe it is 3 years before you will be able to apply for credit once it is actioned

"I know I am going to regret posting this, but I feel so lost and I have nobody to talk to.

I know what you're going to say."

Hugs. Been there

Trust me if will get better.

And thank you for thinking about me. I should have said that first. Sorry.

I have been totally overwhelmed by the support from complete strangers. I don't even mind the posts from the guy with good taste in wine. Enjoy it now. You never know what tomorrow will bring.

The main thing I regret about posting here is upsetting my boyfriend. He doesn't deserve any bad comments. He is doing his best, under really crappy circumstances... And if he I reading this: I do love you so much. I'm sorry for being a selfish attention seeking cow. I miss you so much it hurts. And yes I know you don't want to hear it. Xxx

FYI - nothing about abusive relationship

"happy to loan the money - 500 pounds wasn't it?"

I'd rather each of the forum people gave a tenner each than her take anything from you. Give you more reason to lord it over people, nah like fuck off. If you haven't lived hand to mouth and haven't at one point in your life had to rob Peter to pay Paul or have empathy for someone in that situation then you shouldn't really comment.

"Become an escort - sexy body xx

Good money and not illegal . All the other posts about this ladies problems were extremely helpfull and the Seawitch who used to work for the DWP gave an excellent summary of what to do.

I admire the OP for having the courage to seek advice on the forum and the detailes advice from all other members .

Your comment is totally inappropriate in the circumstances .

Am I not allowed an opinion? There is no right answers so my point is valid as anyone's

In fact mine has a quicker time to resolution than the others

Since when did your _iews become more appropriate than mine?

Would you sell your bum hole if you were broke?

A. I'd never be broke

B. It's an option - that's all I presented - never said she had to

C. If I offered services I'd prob be big spoon

Never say never in this world

Never

I have no debt

Big savings

Rich parents and family / friends

18 months ago we had a joint income of 75k a year. I drove a very nice car and owned a boat. But I was in a very abusive marriage and I couldn't take it anymore.

This could happen to anyone.

As for the reason I chose this forum...actually I don't know. I suppose it's because it was there and easily accessible.

Pride comes before a fall.

Your right

Last year I earnt £71k in one month - sept I think - I must admit it does go quickly - easy to go from riches to rags

If you earned 71 thousand pounds in one month how come you're a curvy man? Did you eat the money? If I earned 71 grand a month my body would be in über incredible shape.

You should see some of the lunches I have

Prob did 20 Michelin star meals last year

Big lumpy 4/5 courses or even tasting menus

Expensive wine

Yummy

Am I not allowed an opinion? There is no right answers so my point is valid as anyone's

In fact mine has a quicker time to resolution than the others

Since when did your _iews become more appropriate than mine?

FYI - nothing about abusive relationship

She posted that she was in a violent marriage which she has left hence why she is in this situation sometimes it pays to read the thread

Read her post - I just did

Nothing in there

Maybe later on in the forum but not in first post

Due to your post the emphasis of the thread has been taken away from the OP I hope you're proud of yourself.

For what it's worth not every thing in life is about money, and wealth can be measured in many different ways.

Depression is horrible I used to think what have people got to be depressed about until it hit me. I'm by no means struggling.

OP, I fully understand the not getting up and the difficulties in functioning. MIND were/are a massive help and can offer you support.

I wish you well.

Depression is sad

But this isn't the forum for real issues

This is a swinging site

You don't have to be poor to give advice but knowledge of dealing with someone in these circumstances, maybe personal experience or simply having empathy towards someone in this situation would help. Your comments are insensitive but you know that.

So burp your little worm and lap up this attention you don't normally receive.

"I've been thinking about this poor lady half the day and something thats just occured to me is - can they actually sack you if you are off sick? Or aren't you being sacked and I've misunderstood it?

Yes you can be sacked if you are off sick - for being off sick. There is a bit of protection under the Disability Act but if you've been off for a year it is reasonable for an employer to consider their business.

The better action is to work with the person to help them back into work, supported and phased, but that isn't possible for every employer to even consider.

"

Having read the whole thread I feel I can give a positive contribution to this part.

Under the disability act you're covered by it after 12 months of being diagnosed with whatever the problem is.

I was off work from July to November and get 6 months full pay (12 months after April)

One thing I was told is I'm not covered under the disability act until 12 months...kind of shit really.

O o O oo

I know people are trying to be helpful but NO phone numbers are allowed onto the forum, no matter who's they are. Please just refer people to the organisation you are advising about.

Also, once a spat has stopped in the middle of the thread, please don't start it up again, it is best sometimes to just ignore and report
