Mostly in GU24

I'm watching The Age of Loneliness on BBC1 and realising that I am lonely. I shouldn't be, but I am. I need a soulmate, somebody who cares about me, thinks about me, loves me.

Is that too much too ask?

Doesn't help being in a terrible marriage, having grown up kids still living at home, a business.

It's definitely love I miss.

Watching it blubbing like a baby. That 100 year old woman and the chap with his wife in a bag set me off.

I have a fabulous life but being quite alpha, tend to push people away so pretty damn lonely too

Going to make an effort to get out and about more once I'm back from my travels

Both of those cases really upset me too. I realised I hadn't done enough for my mum over the last few years. So, I'm going over five days a week, showering her, cleaning the house etc etc but she's no company, she's got dementia and is mostly asleep all the time. It's definitely not helping!

And I remembered when I emigrated to this country years ago, alone, in a new country, I didn't know ANYBODY. That was definitely my loneliness time I think.

You can only experience true misery when the sun is shining. Everything else is an absence of sun.

Similarly, you can only experience true loneliness when surround by the people you love - everything else is the absence of friendship.

It follows that if you wish to experience the trues misery and loneliness possible, you should gather all your friends and family and go to a warm and sunny place.

You might call it a holiday.

I get hugs off my kids so that's nice, i have to force them to hug though haha.

I like being selfish though when they aren't here and doing whatever i want for a change.

I think you have to be happy with yourself to truly know love, like love yourself. If your circumstances are shit and you put up with that it can cause some self loathing maybe?

I get what you're saying but I love and respect myself. Gave up being insecure after years of therapy. Also take myself out of shitty situations and cut toxic people out of my life.

No self loathing here. Yet still lonely.

I don't feel like that luckily.

I do still have kids around though so maybe that's why i'm not lonely, and after years of giving up a lot of myself for them the novelty of having me time might be something to do with how i feel also. Maybe in a few years i will feel the same though?
