It was very good, much better than I expected. Eddie surely must get an award for another outstanding performance. Gives you an insight into the turmoil that a transgender person goes through. It is also a wonderful love story, how his wife stood by him.

Not seen it but he's definitely forging a fine career Mr Redmayne.

Not sure it's one I'll see in the cinema, probably wait for it on Sky.

The opening shot is of a dramatic Danish coastal scene, well worth seeing on the big screen alone

Not yet but from what Redmayne was saying today sounds like a good portrayal of not just TSs but TVs motivation too.

The clip on Graham Norton on New Years eve was spookily realistic xxx

Very cynical.

This film took over 10 years to get backing/funding to be made due to the subject

If you like that film, also try the French film 'Tomboy' (2011). It's another beautiful one. And one that I, for obvious reasons, really connect with.

Enjoy It is one of those films where you are totally involved in it, and nothing else enters your head. If I'm still thinking about it when I get home then I know it was a good film.

A group of friends suggested I tag along a go see it had no idea what it was about or what to expect.

First bit I thought just a typical love story movie till I met lily and then I found it a bit funny, entertaining and just a good watch brilliant.

Agree. Had me laughing and had me in tears. Eddie Redmayne is brilliant in this role. Deserves an Oscar.

Yes, although it's nearly 100 years ago it's a very moving film about a man who wants to be woman and the problems he faces.

Beautiful film and wonderful acting. I can't help thinking on this sad day how much we owe to individuals like Lili Elbe and David Bowie for helping us to understand the many ways in which individuals express their sexuality.

It would be good if they had; just like to use Black actors for roles portraying a Black legend

However, maybe there wasn't anyone Transgender who could act as well

Also, don't you think that using a somewhat famous actor, who is not transgender, focuses mainstream attention to that if a known actor is playing a Transgender character then perhaps it is because that Transgender people are part and parcel of society and not on the outskirts

I totally get that actors should be able to portray many different roles etc but for me the importance of this story means a trans actor should have been cast, but that's just my opinion.

I wouldn't go and see Alan Rickman portray Emmeline Pankhurst either.

I doubt not selling one ticket to me will have much of an impact.

No, it won't make a difference. But I also see your point

However, now that this movie is here and a non-transgender actor has been cast, I will pay for the ticket as I want to support these kind of movies, even though I know I will be bored to tears with this movie. I am more of a Star Wars fan than anything which requires me to think deeply, as entertainment

I hope The Danish Girl does well, I don't wish it ill, the casting can't be changed now but I won't pay to see it.

Bit of a catch 22. On one hand some of Eddie Redmayne's stature/popularity will probably attract more people to see the film, but the film may have had gravitas had a trans actor played the lead.

Of the otehr side of this is that there is no reason why a trans person couldn't pull the audience into the cinema, but to do so they need to have the chance to show what they can do, and this film was a rather nice opportunity (unfortunatly a missed one).

Okay, since this is on the news again, I'm going to stick my neck out

.

Surely the corollary of this would then be that a trans person could then never play a cis-role? Surely the real result would be for a trans person to be accepted for what they are, and no-one take a blind bit of notice when they play someone of the sex that they are?

At the time it was obviously controversial and the surgery was in its early stages and carried risks. Also how many thought he was insane, mad or schizophrenic.

A thought provoking film but beautifully filmed and Eddie Redmayne was brilliant as Lily.
