"i HATE buying petrol but as i work 16 miles from my house i have to drive, there are buses but they take abut n hour and a half to get to the town i work in, i would then have to walk (?!) to my office which will take me ages!!! trouble is we are a captive audience as our dependence on cars is so huge now that we have no choice but to pay whatever price they chose to hoik it up to " Time for mass action, we all stop using our cars for a month! The govs cash cow stops, motor industry stops, Britain PLC stops (as there isn't enough public transoprt to cope) and they'd very quickly wake up and smell the coffee. The I think no fun for a month, maybe not To think the fuel protestfew years back were because it was 80p per litre, looks a bargain now.

"People have to remember that if the fuel goes up, then truck companies pay more, so the price of transporting goods goes up, so you're paying more for your pint of milk and coffee......... so don't matter if you drive or not, it affects us all. Maybe people won't get angry with truckers next time they block up motorways or towns, as they are doing it for everyone's benefit.... " We should all down "Tools" well apart from us men on this site!

" Yeah, but we won't. This is the UK, people would rather grumble and carry on, it seems to be in our DNA. Whereas when, for example, the French Government does something the population doesnt like, they take to the streets en masse and get it changed. Plus la change... (isnt irony delicious sometimes)

"There's an email campaign that's just started doing the rounds, to hit the petrol giants where it hurts. Instead of blockading refineries like they did in 2000, the idea is to exercise consumer power. They want everyone to avoid buying petrol from BP and Esso petrol stations. Hopefully, as their revenue takes a dive, BP and Esso will reduce the pump price to entice the drivers back ..... and then the competitors will follow suit as they don't want to lose customers. Who knows, it might very well work ......." Thanks for that, I will look out for that e-mail campaign!

Wake up to the fact that they are all as bad as one another.

With the global warming hoax governments want us to stop using the car and use public transport more. They are also syaing our roads are tgoo congested. Wait until they breing in charing you for every mile you drive. City centres being the most expensive. I predict in about 5 - 10 years the working class people like me will be unable to afford to drive a car. Driving will another thing for risch people only. Well unless you are prepared to stop going out, buy clothes less often etc.

Do u know for every £1.31 you spend on fuel only 49 p goes to the companys the rest is tax ......... Time for the people to stand up n b counted and take a leaf out of the french book

Time for the people to stand up n b counted and take a leaf out of the french book " There's no doubt a huge percentage of the price of a litre of fuel goes to the Exchequer in tax but if it isn't going to come from fuel, where would people be prepared to pay more tax to make up the loss to the public purse? More VAT on everything? Higher National Insurance contri's? More Income or Inheritance Tax?

"So why not Shell and Texaco?.....and do Jet not count?....or do they always sell fuel so much cheaper than BP and Esso? Wake up to the fact that they are all as bad as one another." Am well aware that all the oil companies are as bad as each other, but by targeting two of them then you haven't got everyone running around like headless chickens not knowing which to avoid etc. And am also aware that the majority of the fuel price at the pumps is what is paid to the Exchequer in duty and VAT. However, it doesn't just stop there. Fuel prices go up, the distribution costs increase (some hauliers have said that the latest increase has seen their fuel bill jump by an extra £6k a month). This will have to be passed onto the retailers, who then pass the price onto the customer - us. There is never going to be an easy answer to any taxes, especially in today's climate. But this Government said, in their manifesto, that they would introduce a "fuel duty stabiliser" ........ ah well, another case of never believe the word of a Politician!

I pay tax, i guess most of you pay tax but only up to a max of 40%. Now if we abolished VAT we might have to pay up to 50% or more. Not good at all. With VAT and fuel tax even those who avoid paying tax have to put something in to the system. For example many people doing jobs for cash in vans might not pay income tax. But they do pay something on fuel. Not ideal but at least it stops some paying nothing at all.
