been on tv some council is putting up cctv to fine people parking when dropping kids off, a school near me people cant get in or out of their drives with parents on school run, some live less than 5 min walk but still take kids in car

All schools in my area have cctv and parking restrictions outside main gates. You can't park between 8am and 4.30pm.

Our kids school had banned parents parking on the car park?? This forces them to park infront of peoples houses.

I think too many presume parents can just walk home afterwards. Alot have to commute to their jobs and dont have time to walk home and get their car. Especially when too many employees arent favourable to parents who need to start later.

Not everyone lives close to their childs school

that pisses me off and you can get 3,4 cars from the same st.driving a fex 100ft,some people would drive into the classroom if they could

Same for us our drive way bends can not see the entrance from our house the ignorant twats will drive up the drive and go can be away for a while. They have not long built this school price of property as gone down through it

It's not just that they use the car it's how they park, they all have to get as close as possible with no thought for people who live there. My parents lived opposite a school and their drive was often blocked so they couldn't get out once some cheeky mare parked down my dads drive! He parked down drive behind her and went out lol she complained!

It's very annoying. I live about 5 miles from my sons school so have no choice but to drive but I always park considerately. I make sure I'm there in plenty of time so if I have to park further away then I have time. 9 times out of 10 I will park further away and walk as it's good exercise for myself and my son, plus I don't get caught up in the madness that is the school run!!

I don't mind the parents dropping their kids off on way to work ,its the ones not working who could walk but drive instead that piss me off.also the ones that block people's driveways or just park wherever it suits them .

I doubt that's quite what is actually happening. In my region the councils bought CCTV cars to monitor parking around schools and ultimately fine those who are parking unsafely. Who were all given a number of warnings before a fine was ever issued. The aim isn't to make money, it's to stop people parking in a way that makes it dangerous for everyone else.

Police have been outside my kids primary school for years now, because of the dangerous parking and needing to keep the pedestrian kids safe.

Unfortunately it's not just outside school, I like Somerset police mindset on parking, if you need to think about it don't park, if you think ill park on pavement to let traffic pass don't park there at all.

Years ago worked as a cleaner in a school and was allowed to park in the car park ,parents actually complained !!I lived a 20 min drive from it .

The headteacher there got so annoyed with parents crap parking used to go out and take pics of the cars and then every week name and shame in a newsletter.there was nearly riots .

It's stupid as for the kids own safety but you can't get that through to some people .

Mind you where I leave have 3 primary schools within 10 mins walk and 1 primary and 2 secondery within 20 mins. The bulk of kids and parents have no road sense walk out and open car doors without looking.

That I can believe, I got skimmed yesterday on a crossing by car when half way over, not the first time sure it won't be last

its not a new problem but does seem to be getting worse

some parents say they drive their kids to school for their safety and then the park so stupidly and put other kids at risk

12 years ago I was delivering school uniform to a wakefield primary school and when speaking to the head about the police warning signs around the entrance he told me the police had been there warning parents about parking on the yellow lines the day before and had returned that morning and issued 14 tickets

nothing has changed much

good one, find out where she lives and park on her drive, most schools have a catchment area within a mile radius, so people dont have to travel far, i was at a friends house next to a school and as someone said they would drive into classroom if they could, plus theres health issues loads of car engines running outside the school

When our two were at school I walked with them if I wasn't working and if I was we arrived early enough to allow us to park responsibly.

Not all parents park badly, dangerously or selfishly but as always those that do are deemed to be the majority.

I do a lot of talks in schools and bad parking is regularly mentioned to kids, so they can have a good moan at mom & dad. Sometimes works but usually not

Just walk your kids to school

It's not difficult to solve the dilemma

Walking is good for you coupled with a healthy diet it will keep weight down and make you at Les risk of being diabetic

For me that isn't possible. 3 schools and if I have to drop off at all 3 its a 18mile round trip. However my youngest walks as its only 5mins away , unless I have to take her with me to drop the older two off first. But then I drop her on the road near And watch her walk down as I can not be bothered with fighting through all the parked parents.

I have to hand my other two over too teaching staff so I am allowed to park in school on safety grounds.

It isn't the parking that bothers me so much as the running late parents speeding down my road.. the school is at the bottom... And so many speed down and with a park opposite its scary at times

I live 1 minute away from my kids school so get people parking outside my door and driveway all the time. Its a village school and I get parents and carers have to get to work afterwards but I too have to get out the door after the school run and being trapped in because of selfish parking. The school has had to start putting cones outside the gates as parents were parking there too which is better for the school now but worse for me

You can request a single white line be painted by your council over your driveway access (only where kerb has been legitimately lowered).

I live 3 doors from my youngest's primary school but he walks 0.7 miles to school & back again as he goes to a childminder.

If you are prevented from exiting your driveway, take a photo of vehicle & contact police.

If you are prevented from accessing your driveway there's not much you can do.

I suggest anyone with an issue complains to the school every time they have a problem. Our school sends messages home reminding parents to be considerate & even arranged for PCSO's to patrol the area at drop off & pick up times.
