Am I the only one who is disappointed in this film? and the fact that it is just a copy of the original one with a couple of tweaks?

JJ had to play safe, the movie wasn't bad for me and we better wait to see all the 3 movie before judging! This is my point if view.

I enjoyed it and thought the humour added to it.

You are quite right that the plot lines and scenes borrowed much from the original, though.

All in all, very good. Apart from BB8, of course.

It was very 4.5 but I think they had to do that to reboot it.

It was an ok film, but without being too spoilerific - and frankly if you haven't seen it yet, WHY are you reading this thread - I found Kylo Ren to be far too emo. The scene where the stormtroopers march round, hear him having a strop, then back off was just cringingly awful. And when Chewie returns, NO interaction with Leia, who just wanders off to hug Rey? Really?

Still, it is better than all three prequels put together.

I found it massively disappointing, if it was a stand alone film maybe it would be good but the fact that is a rip off of the original I find a bit insulting, and makes it look like they are just ripping us off and putting no effort in

Anyone else find the focus of the attempted nostalgia each time a character from the original trilogy was shown fore first time rather annoying?

"I really liked it! Hit the spot exactly for me! Just what the Doctor ordered after the prequel trilogy "

Pretty much my reaction.

Though when will the Dark Side understand that building a Death Star with a vulnerable trench is a bad idea? They should have learned by now, surely.

Did anyone spot the non-sequitur? After interrogating Rey, he throws his helmet down and goes out. When he returns, he is wearing it again. I suppose he might have had a spare.

It wasn't a bad film at all just some parts annoyed me, I thought his lightsaber was pretty cool.

It's a really crudely made one, anyone else notice the jagged edges of it? And the sides are exhaust vents.

I think him being so baby faced will change as he uses the darkside...look at the emperor in episode 1 & 2.

It was a remake of the first one which was just fine for a new generation of fans. I just hope there are a few twists and turns along the way in the next two. Maybe because I'm a bi dark, but I'd quite like to see the dark side prevail in the end!!

When you're redoing something that has been done before but want to please fans. You need a certain level of familiarity and a decent amount of new stuff.

What JJ managed to do was to change the state of the world e.g. New Republic, First Order while keeping the feel of the original trilogy. Characters both new and old were (and will continue to be) developed. Any jokes included were well established and akin to those in the original (without any wacky characters stepping in poo like in the Phantom Menace).

It was a safe play, but it was necessary, because audiences love familiarity. Also Star Wars always has had themes that repeat themselves anyway, even in the originals.

Also it's the first of 3, the series has a long way to go. Not to mention the other 3 spin offs that we're getting.

"

I loved Bb8! The long shot of him racing across the rebel base to be reunited with Poe was so cute, in a good way.

But the rehash of ANH grated after a while though.

Wasn't the phantom menace a retelling of new hope too? I mean anakin was the chosen one so was Luke and now rey? I just hope she's not related to Luke.

All in all I really liked the film, has anyone else noticed Daniel Craig in the film?

Nah, only the girlies liked that stoopid bot. R2 had much more cross-gender support.

It was very much the same look and feel of the original trilogy in comparison to the last three but was a bit of a carbon copy of Episode Four I agree.

Having said that I did enjoy it.

Titz Towers, North Notts

I thought as remakes go it was below par. I loved the meeting where they decided to go and attack the Death Star mk III - I've been in meetings where it has taken longer just to pick biscuits.

I should have just stayed at home, for really pissed (so that they all looked blurry and older) and watched the original.

Yeah rens lightsaber is actually a nod back to luke constructing his own lightsaber, the handles/vents are because the crystal contained within is cracked.

Nerd fact

As a film I thought it was quite good, as part of the Star Wars series...... Disappointed with the amount of coincidences, and too many old characters just there for the sake of it. Would of preferred if you didn't know if it was going to be Luke at the end or not

The movie was great, i have been a fan of Star Wars since i was 4 and i have loved every movie. The Force Awakens doesnt follow the story from the novels so as a movie took a different approach for a new generation of fans.

I can see how a fair few ideas from VII have been transended from eps IV + VI but only in a bid to get new target audiences and the movie did do just that.

Some things in the movie people didnt like were Kylo and his Saber, honestly he does look quite emo but even in the novels he does have a kind of similar look and the saber is down to a focusing crystal in the hilt to make the blade seem damaged plus different jedi/sith throughout the history have unique sabers so a claymore style is quite cool.

I saw it Saturday, it was a bloody good scfi movie.

A few massive plot hole's but hey ho.

But what this movie taught me was c3p0's role in the whole series.

Apart from being r2d2's camp sidekick.

His role is to state the bleedin obvious!

Wow, sorry to hear the new star wars film ruined your childhood, i thoroughly enjoyed it. I had my childhood ruined when i was an actual child (childrens homes in the 70's, that sort of thing) so films don't really have that effect on me
