So I completely kick started 2016 by getting fit by swimming and Zumba and loving it...but can you recommend any other fitness classes such as Body Combat etc...I'm not a gym person

I don't really do fitness as I do bodybuilding, but a popular class at my gym fitness first is something called afterburn, you heard of it? x.

Spinning classes are very good and as your on a bike your body is supported and you peddle as hard as you like. Friend of mine lost 6 stone from size 24 to 12 in a year doing it. Good luck

X2 on the spin low impact and if you do it with friends and a decent instructor it's the only cardio I found fun.

Depends on your level of fitness.

If you're doing Zumba then how about adding something like a bums, legs & tums class for extra toning. If you're fit enough then I would say something along the lines of Body Combat / Les Miles / Insanity classes as a higher level of workout.

My level of fitness is not great I walk loads for my job but my body has got used to that. I managed to do 30 lengths in the pool yesterday so I might build up my fitness then try the more intense work outs

Body Pump or Body Combat will probably kill you if you've not been attending classes regularly. Start off with Body Balance, or maybe Metafit (its only 30 mins long - the others are a full hour). A decent Pilates class is more strenuous than you think, or look at Total Tone.

I do Pilates and it's more like power pilates if there's such a thing, great for flexibility & core strength.

Any of the les mills ones pump and combat are both good, piloxing is excellent, LBT, boxercise, body conditioning, dont be scared of any with weights wether hand weights or the bar they'll burn just as much fat/calories as cardio type classes while totally sculpting your body shape they are amazing!

I agree with combat but pump you could just use an empty bar till you get the hang and your posture right for the squats etc. That's what the lass who does my classes recommends for newbies, it's surprising how quick you get into It x

What I did last year was have a go at each class to see what I liked. If you don't like them, you won't keep it up. Unfortunately they stopped the Abs Blast class before Christmas (boo) but the other classes I enjoyed I kept at.

I like Metabolic Effect (body conditioning with weights) but I'm a sweaty mess at the end.

I was thinking that just try each class and see as I go along.... I joined my local leisure centre and classes are included so it's worth a go.

I was told by a sports therapist...pilates or similar for core strength and flexibility to protect your spine etc. And some sort of class/fitness that gets the heart pumping for 20 mins.

I've tried a few different classes and settled on pilates, chi fit. And a circuits/boot camp.

As long as you don't lose heart and take the classes at your pace the teacher should keep an eye on you.

Very few people can do a new form of exercise class all the way through if it's challenging. Otherwise it's not challenging. You improve and do more slowly!

Good luck sweetie xxx

I also do boxercise which is fun and have signed up for a month of kickboxing lessons for a quid!! Used to do karate so hoping I'll pick it up well.

My friend keeps asking me to join her at pole fitness but not sure I or the world is ready for that!!

Sometimes U.K

Spin class aren't for everyone. I would suggest a combination of cardio (spin, treadmill, rowing) toning (body pump, Legs bums tums) and strength (weights) to obtain your fitness level and feel good about yourself.

Everyone has different opinions on what works, we're all different. It's important to enjoy classes and going to the gym and gradually your fitness level will improve.

Yeah I'd agree! I'm fairly fit but walked into a class last month where the average woman was around a size 8 and about 22 yrs old - including the instructor. The class nearly bloody killed me and I felt like an old fat slob. Not going in there again until I'm superfit!

Trick is to find a class that pushes you but doesn't demoralise you! Good luck Cheeky love!

I did insanity with Marc a few years back after becoming chubby while studying for the Bar exam. It was difficult, really difficult, but it worked so amazingly well. I lost something like 20lbs, and I was only about 140lbs at the time.

I would recommend it if you have a room at home that's big enough and a good deal of commitment. I think it teaches you good work out habits, too, that you can use even while not following the program.

"ahhh the january club once again, the gyms and swimming pools are packed with good intentions but i wonder for how long?

Maybe if the "regulars" were a bit more welcoming and helped people out or just leave them be, rather than griping about all the new fat people, some of the January club might feel inclined to stick with it. "

Us January starters didn't complain when the gym regulars were in our pubs in December...

Boxercise is fun and quite the workout plus my tutor is pretty hot. It's 30 minutes of Insanity and then 30 minutes with the gloves and pads.

I've swapped to this rather than traditional boxing.

"I'm dragging my arse off to try body combat if I'm not back I love you all

Oooohhhh can I have feedback please???

I'm always too scared to go to any classes because my basic level of fitness is practically non existent (I can swim for miles but rubbish at everything else). "

Can you go with a friend / colleague ~ a gym class feels a little daunting with another newbie

Low impact ones like the B.L.T for example are a good place to start. If you like swimming how about a water aerobics class?

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

When I started getting serious about getting fit last year I didn't want to start off as the only lard arse in the class, so I did fitness DVDs at home for a month or two. Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred is worth a go.

If you want to escape the gym and still get a good all body workout, especially without ending up looking like a body builder. I would suggest trying rowing, as in proper fine boat rowing on water, not an erg in the gym. There are plenty of clubs with recreational rowing sections, so that once you have learnt how to row, you can get out on the water get some exercise, whilst having a darn good natter.

Works wonders for toning up most of your muscles, great for cordination and does wonders for your balance.

Ok, I'm a little biased as I have spent the last 4 years recreational rowing and have been amased at the results, whilst not feeling like I really doing proper exercise.

Best way for a woman to drop weight (sometimes) is weight training. It's brilliant for losing fat and changing body shape. I used to be a bit of a cardio bunny but it didn't do anything for my body shape, I was fit but not very toned. Strength training is the only way for me now with a little bit of running thrown in.

Very good for loosing some fat and working muscles youd normally miss.

"Body Pump or Body Combat will probably kill you if you've not been attending classes regularly. Start off with Body Balance, or maybe Metafit (its only 30 mins long - the others are a full hour). A decent Pilates class is more strenuous than you think, or look at Total Tone."

Hehe pretty much every body pump class i was stopping and panting like fuck while all the mums and middle aged ladies carried on no problem.

No one minds if you have to take a break

..a women on fab

...and who squats =

1rm @ 105kg is good going!

Women should incorporate some resistance training (i.e. lifting weights) into their gym routines. There is a misconception that by lifting some weights that all women will get huge; it takes a lot for that to happen....

I agree it's not for everybody but it does get results nd it gives you something to work towards. I used to get a lot of admiring eyes from females in the gym and I also found some men got quite intimidated. One fella told me off and said girls shouldn't lift weights lol x

You really should try pole fitness. Its tough but a good class will work you at your own pace and in time you'll absolutely love being able to show off with some of the moves...

I can't swim

Nor can I "

You should learn to swim. It's never too late and is a great way to exercise. I taught a woman in her 70's and a woman who'd had a double mastectomy to swim. Even treading water or doing aqua fit is good.

Good luck. I'm off to the gym tomorrow then a swim.

I'm often getting asked how I get my ass looking so good in jeans!

My 1rm for squats is 120kg. I love lifting! Can't remember what it is for deads though.

Just bought 2 new hoodies. 1 says - I know I lift like a girl. Please try to keep up. The other says - ass down, chest up, that's the way we pick shit up.

I go to a Burlesque Chair Dancing fitness class twice a week and as well as working wonders it's bucket loads of fun. I've got a lot of my friends into it and the bravest amongst us have taken part in shows which was absolutely amazing. Look it up on Facebook or Google for the website to see if there is a class in your area, you would love it x A x
