Have you ever met anyone in the real world who, for no particularly reason, you took an immediate dislike to and can't be sure why?

Do you sometimes feel that we prejudge and label others too hastily, and as a result deny ourselves the chance to know people who could perhaps even be friends, or do you believe in trusting your gut feelings?

No.

No but a few don't take long to help me to dislike them, that said, they are a tiny minority. Indifference is much more common

Most of the time my gut instinct is right, but I have been known to change my mind.

The person I disliked the most(and she me) is now my best friend that I met via fab

I generally get to know people first before they become part of my "inner circle". There are a few who I have misjudged, but only by thinking they were idiots, when in fact they turned out to be absolute tossers

I call it "first impression".

Sometime we are correct but sometime we are not. I think it's natural.

Yes, but not in those terms.

I'm not prone to taking a dislike to people who cross me in everyday life...

In a professional capacity, yes. I've worked with difficult, dangerous and disturbing behaviour and some of those people were frankly vile individuals I did not want to be left alone with.

Listen to your gut.

I don't think I've ever automatically not liked someone straight away but I've met people who I think I won't click with.

I try not to ever think of anyone as an enemy now because it's not healthy and I don't believe in free will so can't blame people. That doesn't mean I'll be friends with everyone but no enemies (although some might think I'm their enemy but that's their problem).

Central

It's standard human experience to interpret others, based on our experience, beliefs and desires etc. I've made both accurate and less accurate impressions of others and work hard to give people the time that we may need to get to know each other.

I'd like others to give me the opportunity to not be pre-judged and condemned, so it's fair to offer that to all.

Gut instinct is an important aspect of our experience. But our thinking selves are able to go beyond the immediacy of our largely unconscious needs. Snap decisions - listen to your gut and couple it with wise quick rational thought.

I am not the most social of people as I find my job draining having to be nice to everyone all the time! So I do have a tendency to make snap judgements.

I guess because I'm polite it gives me the space to change my mind and the person wouldn't have realised I didn't really like them initially!

Enemies is a very strong word and wouldn't use it..I dislike people and my gut instinct is 99% correct ..on here I really don't take notice of many I know what I want and go for that the others are just names on a screen .

In the real world if people are rude and piss me off I take a dislike to them.

But not many get the chance as I don't let many in ..those I have n they have pissed me off don't get to do it again.

There are people I've disliked on sight and I know I've been irrational. They have done absolutely nothing to me or anyone I know, on the contrary, quite charming, but my spirit just hasn't taken to them.

Only once have I changed my mind. A new woman started work. Six foot, blonde, blue eyed south African. Was not pleased when asked to show her the ropes. Her laid back, happy, relaxed approach made me see her in a different light.

Fast forward 30 years and still one of my oldest, closest friends.

People really have to do or say something outrageous before I actively dislike them. I sometimes get a gut feeling about people for no reason but I just keep my distance and observe from afar before I allow myself to make a final judgement. Much of the time that initial feeling was correct but occasionally it isn't.

People don't usually realise if I don't like them as I'm always polite if I have to come into contact with someone I feel negatively about.

I was introduced to an oil company representative who greeted me by announcing his name immediately followed by a statement declaring himself the 7th most intelligent man on Holland..

I smiled politely...

I do get annoyed by people who assume their professional position is going alter my thoughts on them or what answers they are going to recieve.

Don't try the power trip with me. If I can help, I will. If I can't, the fact you announce yourself as xyz ain't gonna change jack shit.

Yeah over the years I've met people I disliked immediately on meeting and in all that time I think I've only been wrong twice. I do try not to make snap judgements but my instinct is pretty good.

I don't make it obvious and the person isn't and enemy I just keep them at arms length.

I've only ever met one woman, well person -who on first ever meeting I got the full alarm bells going with a red warning caption.

It was my mate's new GF and as we 'locked eyes' so to speak I got the impression of cogs turning behind the scenes. It was a very real gut instinct that said 'beware'.

I was later proved right, very right - and don't hesitate to say she was probably a real psychopath.

Manipulative, controlling, charismatic and attractive to boot she always got what she wanted whatever it took.

Nasty piece of work.

I interact with the general public on a daily basis and this has made me pretty cynical. Working for the NHS certainly hasn't helped either. This means I come across quite a few people I take an instant dislike to but professionalism and so on. There's lots of not very nice people out there

Enemies.

Hmmmm i suppose the last time i can recall actually labelling any one as my enemy would be back in my school days there was 1 girl lead a group of bitches forever bullying otheres many times i would step in and stop them .

The things they use to do was just plain evil

Even now when i see her about she cant look me in the eye .

It amazes me to see her ex victims from school have her on there friends list on facebook yet i still despise her 30 years later

(Her)
