Off to New York on Tuesday for a week. Any recommendations for things to do and see? Will be doing the normal tourist stuff but hoping to find some lesser known stuff as well. Great places to eat/drink, nice walks, just any tips really! And anything low budget is awesome.

Also does anyone know of any swingers clubs or ways to be naughty there? I have had a browse of the Fab users in the area but there don't seem to be many and only one person has replied

Go to Serendipity for dessert, book in advance. It's really nice. Dylan's is an amazing looking sweet shop on the corner too. It's owned by Ralph Lauren's daughter so stylish inside.

Daisy May's for BBQ. You order at the till, it's served up canteen style and you sit at the back on benches in a communal type area. It's fantastic.

Sign up for the Zagat email newsletter or check out their website for recommendations on food/drink. They're always suggesting the best places.

Maybe you could get an OkCupid profile. My friend updated her profile location to New York before she went there and ended up meeting a couple and a single guy for fun whilst she was on holiday. Think they showed her some of the less touristy places too which she appreciated.

Oh and the Rockefeller centre is cool at night time, especially at winter. I don't know if you can still ice skate this late.

NBC do tours if you like US television. It's quite good if you like seeing behind the scenes stuff.

Remember to have plenty of small bills on you for tips. My last trip I spent $40 from the taxi at the airport to entering my room. It gets pricey.

Bird land Jazz Club was cool but v popular. Bill's Burgers was reasonably priced food with strong cocktails.

You should travel to Chicago if you have a week just to visit the famous wieners circle!

Hard rock, the village, Central Park, zoo, natural history museum, liberty and Ellis island, we did them all, but watch out for the homeless peeing off public benches

The Staten Island ferry is free. The cable cars are good for views too but short ride so probably not worth it.

Go eat at the stardust diner it's up Broadway

All the people waiting on tables work on the shows so whilst serving sing and perform its brilliant.

Serendipity is good too and the sweetie shop, avoid Central Park zoo it's pretty shit to be honest.

We had a tut tut around Central Park that was brilliant was about $40 we'll work it.

Visit grand central station and look around the market also the oyster bar in the station our hotel was the grand Hyatt so we were lucky being there all the time.

Also if you want a bit of shopping avoid 5th ave shops get a grey line over to New Jersey to the premier outlet all designer shops such as Jimmy Choo, Gucci, Armani, Michael Kors at a fraction of the cost I saved well over $2500 by going here.

If you want normal if there is such a thug New York Greenwich or soho were really nice.

I had an amazing time but check the weather and wrap up warm.

Lucky thing wish I was going back

If you like seafood then there's an oyster bar in Grand Central station that's amazing; the station is breathtaking too.

You have to try a real New Yorker deli, Carniege is good

North London / Herts

Used to work in NYC. A little hidden thing is the Burger Joint @ The Parker Meridien Hotel

Behind a curtain in the lobby of the hotel, Wizard of Oz style. Shake is awesome too. As with many good things in NYC, be prepared to line up.

Has to be the high line if you like walking. Gorgeous views of the city and you can pop into Chelsea Market. Coney Island is good but not advised at night as it is pretty rough

I would recommend top of the rock as well (prefer it to the Empire State Building).

Also the comedy cellar is a great activity, it's near Greenwich village, or there is danger fields on the mid / upper east side. Both are great proper comedy clubs (not the glossy large audience type)

I was there in early December and must also recommend The High Line. It is a disused raised railway that has been redeveloped with plants trees and flowers etc. It is a good walk and it is free! Also, if you're a music fan, be sure to check out the buskers on the subway, some really good musicians. Enjoy yourself! X

Bubba Gumps in Times Square was one of our fave places to eat - the staff are amazing and the food is just great.

Horse & carriage ride in Central Park was a must for us - do the deal with the actual driver not the ticket touts.

Jersey Boys Broadway show was just spectacular - I cried.

This is my suggestion too, if you're looking it up it'll probably be listed as Ellen Stardust's Diner and Club, it's on 51st and Broadway.

The tkts booth in Times Square opens at 3pm if you fancy a show, but the queue starts forming at 2pm. Sometimes there are people going up and down the queue asking if anyone wants to go see a live recording, things like Letterman etc.

The Natural History Museum is good, I went there for my birthday.

The Blue Note in Greenwich Village is an intimate jazz bar (live music) plus there's a cool risotto bar 5 min walk away.

Wrap up - it's going to be really cold there this time of year

Enjoy xx

If you like shopping, and wan bargains, go to woodberry common... a designer outlet village with over 200 stores.

You can get a bus from Grand Central Station, it takes just over an hour.... it's well worth it, and you will save a small fortune!

If you're going up the Empire State go up about half hour before sunset. You can see the city in daylight and watch it light up as night falls.
