Ladies and TV/S advuce needed.

Just started to get half decent at makeup, with the aid of some YouTube vids I'd add, but could do with a more complete set.

Haven't got hundreds to buy a complete set of top end stuff nor do I want to waste my money of cheap stuff.

Can anyone give me a brief list of things I really need and the most cost efficient brands to buy? Ideally I could do with just ordering it from the same place in one go.

Watch some tutorials on contouring. It's like magic - how to put on a tonne of make up without it looking like you're wearing loads. The good tutorials will also tell you what brands and brushes to buy.

by far the best foundation/concealer to cover beard shadow is the kryolan pan stick...

mixing a bit of red lipstick into concealer helps to hide the shadow..

dont overdo the eyeshadow a lot do and end up looking like a drag queen

I don't wear makeup as such but I do know that you get what you pay for with it.

I have a friend who is a makeup artist and we are going to be working on helping men with makeup

Price doesn't always equal quality, you're best bet is stuff like No 7, Bourjois is made by the same people who make Chanel and for things like eye shadow Miss Sporty the really cheap range from Superdrug is good.

Look for things that double up e.g. brown eyeshadow can also be used as a contour powder, pink lipstick as blush, highlighter for eyes works on face too.

What you buy depends on the look you go for but I would say a good foundation or BB cream, waterproof mascara, an eye shadow palette that includes brown shades and a highlighter and a lipstick or two. Kajal or eyeliner pencils in black, brown and either blue or green are a good addition to any kit.

Last but by no means least cleanser and waterproof eye makeup remover to be used no matter how tired you are

also for eyeliner...

the pencils can be hit or miss and the liquid pens hard to get to grips with.

a good liner is the avon glimmerstick pen and can be found on evilbay for a couple of quid

Always hold the nib of the pencil between thumb and forefinger for a couple of seconds, it warms it and it goes on more smoothly, same with mascara hold it in your hand for 30 seconds and it will flow on to your lashes much more smoothly. I agree about glimmerstix, a lot of Avon stuff is good.

It depends on what kind of look you want, natural or stage make up that drag queens wear.

Book in for a tutorial at MAC cosmetics (you regularly see men getting make up done in the London concessions). Or hire a private make up artist for your home.

I only wear basic make up. My make up bag consists of:

Bareminerals Primer

YSL touche éclat concealer

BareMinerals loose powder foundation

Nars blush

Clinique mascara (High impact one)

Bareminerals eyeliner pencil in black

Bobbi brown gel eyeliner (rarely worn)

Kabuki brush for foundation powder

Blusher brush

Some people need a lot more coverage but it gives you an example of what products you need.

I know you identify as CD, but there is a website targeted to TVs that may be useful for you. Have a Google for it.

I'm very into contouring and eye makeup and the best brands I've found are smash box and urban decay.

I prefer the faker look, brands like Clinique aren't heavy enough for me and MAC's foundation comes out orange over my paler skintone.

When looking at eyeliner, the pencils aren't always great but the pens can be watery and the liquid's I would only recommend to experts. The best starter eyeliner would be (I can't think of what to call it) a pencil, but in a plastic tube? That you twist and it comes up?

Also concealer under foundation, and aaaaaaallllllwwwwaaaaays use a primer before you start (otherwise my makeup slides off in about 5 minutes) - MOST IMPORTANT THING!

Good luck chick!

It's important to look after your skin from the inside out. Makeup looks best on a smooth moisturised face. Cleanse every evening, moisturise and drink lots of water.

I find the Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse foundation goes on evenly and feels silky once it's dried.

good advice... i'd add use a liquid base before applying foundation/concealer gives it something to stick to and helps combat it going 'cakey'

I cannot recommend Younique enough!! I was very dubious (I have 3 friends who are agents) at 1st but it really is amazing foundation - about £25-£30 a bottle but you only need 5 spots at a time. Their 3D fibre lashes mascara is brilliant too £23 a tube.

I'm rubbish with make up do can't help any more I'm afraid! Good luck though x

Yes I agree with the Younique fibre lash mascara though I only use it when I glam up - otherwise I tend to stick to high street mascaras for every day use - good luck OP x

Hey

I would recommend making some appointments with different brands om and letting them try some products on you to see what suits you best. As already mentioned no7 is a really good brand, you're able to book appointments and they have a device to match foubdation, concealer, blusher and lipstick to your skin tone.

Lancome, Mac and bobbi brown are 3 of my favourite brands. If you have a look online for some make up looks that you love and show these to a beauty advisor, they'll be able to help you achieve this.

Also worth mentioning that what suits others won't necessarily suit you. I, for example, have oily combination skin and like full cover long lasting make up, my products would not suit someone with dry skin or who wants a more natural look. Bare that in mind when asking people what products they love

And a lot of high end brands like lancome/bobbi brown offer a garuntee that if they help you find make up or skin care products and you take them home, use them and then find they don't work for u, you can take them back and they'll work with you to find a different product that works.

Barry M eyeshadow pots are fantastic, about a fiver each I think for tiny pots, but they last forever, and they're sparkly!

I know I'm bias, but as a Younique presenter, I have found the best foundation I've ever used and that is the Younique foundation. I've tried Brands like MAC who I loved but now I find their stuff just doesn't make my skin look good.

I would also recommend the mascara. It does the trick! x

I would get yourself a good foundation for starters. The other TVs on this thread will probably have more idea what would work for concealing. I like YSL Touche Eclat foundation.

I love Younique 3D fibre lashes, they do make your lashes look longer.

I'm loving Ted Baker makeup, it feels and looks really luxurious.

Contouring is the way to go for dramatic looks. I can get the illusion of a different shaped nose and cheekbones with clever contouring tricks.

I like dramatic makeup and I have to say I'm good at it. There are lots of amazing tutorials on you tube.

You can't go wrong with buying makeup from Boots. I also buy Dainty Doll make up which is for very pale skins. Another brand to maybe try is the Soap and Glory makeup, the motherplucker lipgloss is great but I really love the kick ass concealer, works very well.

I've got so much makeup that I can't list all the brands I have. Oh the Urban Decay eyeshadow palette is great too, and Benefits Watts up highlighter and the High Beam highlighter, both are gorgeous

There are a lot of men work on the mac counters in Selfridges and Harvey Nics. They are always made up and the most charming of guys. They will know exactly what you are looking for.

Definitely worth a trip even if you don't buy anything. It will give you an idea of what you are looking for from other brands.
