most fundamental aspects

If it's a concern you have, then the only option is to see a GP.

There are loads of conditions, whose symptoms are similar to gout: diabetes, capillary disorders, chilblains or mild frostbite. Getting treatment quickly for the right thing, will alleviate I imagine your very painful condition.

When I started having joint problems I was tested for it, turns out it was psoriatic arthritis. Neither are particularly pleasant conditions to suffer from

"Hiya has anyone ever had or know much about gout?"
I've had it extremely painful appears in your joints normally starts in big toe joint its caused by uric acid which is found in red meat ,port ,red wine ,peas and fruit juice

Not myself, but know people with it;

It's Agonizing.

Largely due to urea acid crystallizing in joints.

There are some effective treatments, and recurrence can be controlled to some extent by diet.

If you haven't done so, see the Doctor.

Got it in my left toe too much Bon viveur but I regret nothing.

Bloody painful on its day. Alpuerol and cherry juice alleviates it somewhat.

I have got a very swollen and painful ankle. Very hot to touch. Had an X ray that shows swelling. The doctor said it could be gout...but I was thinking arthritis. No issues with my toes at all.

NHS24 - contact them rather than trying to diagnose it yourself.

Hope you feel better soon.

on the road to nowhere in particular

It affects joints, mainly the big toe for some reason. Attacks can be brought on by alcohol, offals, rich foods and gravy. Symptoms can be sometimes be countered by staying away from the above foods, laying off the booze and drinking large amounts of (hot) water to flush out the system. Cherries are very good for gout although can be expensive at this time of year. You can purchase concentrated cherry juice from health food or cycling shops. Obviously it is much cheaper on the interweb.

Drugs such as allopurinol relieve symptoms but are not good for the kidneys long term.

Hope this helps.

C...

"The doctor said it could be gout...but I was thinking arthritis. "

Gout is, technically, a form of arthritis...

Arthritis is swelling in joints; there are over 100 types of arthritis; gout is one.

Gout is in fact uric acid that crystalises on the joints......allopurinol stops the body producing it

Gout causes intense pain and a hot/burning sensation.

Dietary changes can make a big difference in some people.

My ex had it.

He controlled it by diet, because he hated the medication for it.

I got him on some herbal medicine that also helped alleviate the symptoms during attacks.

I have it. Usually affects feet especially toes. I take prescribed medication and any inflammatories

It feels sore and hot to the touch. Feels like walking on broken glass.

If u have it, take lots of ibrupofen to help the pain

little house on the praire

It's a bastard, my gp said he's seen grown men crying with it.

I take allipurinal Dailey to stop flare ups, still happens but not so often.

Used to be called the rich man's disease, port and cheese ect where said to trigger it.

Much less common in women and is more likely to affect over 50 year olds.

Took them ages to diagnos me as I was a 29 year old woman and they weren't looking for it.

If you've not had it before it could be the rich food and alcohol of Christmas that's triggered it.
