Edinburgh

No... I'd get the map out of the glove box!

If I still couldn't find my way, then I'd ask for directions.

Asking is fine by me, tho that can get tricksy....I`m thinking of Swindons Magic roundabout !!

In the days afore satnav I`d find a taxi rank, hire one and follow it to my destination ....worth a fiver in time in big cities et al....curiously a few taxi drivers let me have a freebie .....more like a favour ?

Back of Beyond

We have found that the satnav is good at getting you to a postcode.

But for an overall view you really need a map to see location. Satnav's are no good for that at all.

Or as Karen says when we are driving long distances and she is map reading, "we have about half a finger left to go"

Seriously, when driving say across France, its one thing watching the satnav. But it gives no visible indication of how far you have travelled. At lease with a map you can see it on the page. A map somehow makes it easier to do long journeys.

Sat nav is a good tool as long as you remember that it is a tool and not perfect, kaz is an awesome map reader, but have you noticed when asking for directions that y the time they get to the 3rd right or left you've forgotten what they said in the beginning.

i wa in the carpark and stopped some people for directions but just burst out crying all i kept saying was 'i've got to go up this really big hill and i cant find it'

they were very nice and helped me, even bought me a to calm down lol

near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack!

I have MS Autoroute on my lappy and always take it if I go on a long trip. I find it a usefull back up to the SatNav and I`ll look through the route before I set out to give myself an idea of where I`m going to. I`ll also have a good look at Google Street view too to see if there`s any good landmarks to note.
