Is it rude to just delete messages when the sender obviously can't or hasn't read our profile??

How do you know they haven't read your profile if you don't read the message?

Because people can look at profiles in stealth mode.

Like, I may or may not have just looked at your profile and you'll never know.

It's not rude. Apparently site rules say it mean no thanks.

You read it then delete. It's usually obvious whether someone has read it or not.

Pretty obvious if they haven't read mine. Smokers, people miles away or married guys message me, they clearly haven't read my profile so I won't reply like my profile said I wouldn't but they don't know that as they haven't read it!

Didn't mention not reading the message, the question was, is it considered rude to just delete it instead of wasting time replying saying thanks but no thanks or please read our profile.

No its not but some have a major hissy fit if you do that, still, shows their true colours I suppose

Yes noticed the hissy fits and its even worse when they're d*unkenly messaging late at night completely random "Free now" or similar when we've never even messaged or met.

I have two questions. Can you view profiles in stealth mode - how do you do that?? and second, Would they ever know if you deleted it without reading it. They would just see it as unread....so is leaving a message unread rude?

No, it's not. Read the FAQ section.

You just go to privacy page and tick/untick the " I show on who has looked at me"

Look in your privacy settings for the former.

And you can read messages then tick the "mark as unread" box.

)1 it's one of your profile settings.

2)I'm pretty sure it shows deleted unread if you do, but may be wrong.

This whole issue comes up time and time again. It is in no way incumbent on the recipient to reply, or even read.

We also routinely block people we have no interest in meeting. Not out of malice or spite, but it saves us coming up in their search results and vice versa.

I actually prefer to see a message has been deleted rather left showing as unread. That way, I know exactly where I stand.

Having said that, I dont message anyone if their profile indicates that either we are not suited, or I dont meet their criteria.

Ahh I see - slight mis-interpretation of the original question on my part!

Its considered 'acceptable site practice' to just delete a message without a reply / response - and to take it to its logical conclusion, to block the person as well.

However, as to if its rude? There have been a hundred threads discussing this subject, this year alone. So forgive me, but I'm not going to get dragged into that debate. At the end of the day, if you feel its the right thing to do, then you're playing the game your way - which is the only way to play it.
