Earlier this morning I sent a welcome message to a "newbie" Female on the site.

In the time it took me to type out a short message and send it, she'd left already; she was on here for only 7 minutes!

Why do people prey on newbies? Sorry but I don't believe the 'want to welcome you to the site bullshit'. Is it any wonder women leave this site when they are hounded within minutes of joining. To be honest if I signed up to a new site and within 7 minutes I was already getting inundated with messages from men, however well intentioned and welcoming they were, I'd probably be a little overwhelmed too so I'm not surprised that, for some, it's all a little too much a little too quickly. I know from chats with a few people on here that their inboxes were overflowing even before they'd posted any pictures or updated their profile.

Definitely not a criticism of you OP, but I can just imagine a newbie being overcome with attention

It's very common place now to see 2 or 3 hr flashes...even here in belfast area with its small community theres multiple daily flashers. It's having a negative effect unfortunately. Something needs to be done but no idea what.

Exactly! Within an hour of joining we had hundreds of messages. No pics. No text yet we were gorgeous blah blah. All got bulk deleted and we knew to avoid those that had messaged within that first day as they sent the same message to every newbie. Tho we weren't new to the site if we were we would have left.

Just had a thought on what you were saying...If there was a 3 day cooling period of not being able to send or recieve messages it might be a good thing. Newbies won't get pestered...It would give them time to look around...and it would stop those who join to get a quick shag and then leave.

what do others think?

I can say from my experience and a friends that any "female" that appears as a newbie does get inundated straight away. And yes I had no pics and no text in my profile at the start lol. My first 24 hours, in fact first week or two, were rather overwhelming! I was ok as I had a lot of time on my hands at the time as I wasnt working for a bit. I had no idea it would be so full on as my only previous experience was dating sites where people are obviously a lot more choosy and restrained haha. I eventually took control of my mailbox with my filters and it's far easier to manage now. However, some poor girls must find it too much

Yes a good idea. Filters defaulting to not receive messages is another good idea. Maybe having to acknowledge the faqs may help some as well.

Not everyone will be as resilient as you. I'm sure you can appreciate from day to day life that it takes all sorts, in my (limited) social sphere I know people who are unmovable rocks who let nothing get to them and others who curl up at the very mention or suggestion of any controversy. Maybe the lady the OP speaks of didn't have the right constitution for a site like this and those first 7 minutes just confirmed it. Who knows?

I like this - sensible idea. Even a 24hr or 48hr buffer, would be better than dropping a newbie straight into the shark pool.
