Well...

Take the word apart... It's Latin. 'Tri-' is three, '-via' is road.

It comes from the point at the southern gate of Rome, the Porta Ostiensis, where three of the great Roman road from the south of Italy converged.

It was also the spot where women and slaves went to wash clothes - a thankless dull task, whiled away only by telling stories and gossiping.

Ergo, anything that was a bit dubious, a bit dodgy, possibly made up was said to be trivia - ie it was a rumour that originated there.

What would be the best material to form into 6 wire rings in a spherical pattern which, will be subject to high vacuum and and will be charged to -40,000 volts.

They also be subjected to bombardment by ions at aprox 40KeV (450 million degrees kelvin) and some fast neutron radiation
