I enjoy taking nudes of myself, my wife and people I meet. Am interested in advice about posing, lighting and settings !

All advice gratefully recieved!

I have a small compact camera, pentax WG 10 and a sony HX100v bridge camera.

So can play with settings on both.

I can't give you any hints but if you look through books of erotic or sensual photos you can get some great ideas for poses and the use of natural light.

Find a north facing window and place the subject near it with the diffused light coming through the window. Avoid harsh sunlight and direct flash at all times. Be aware of what is in the background; WC pans are not generally conducive to good photos!

Also hide the children's toys, and the dirty laundry

Not so sure about a north facing window at this time of year; and my neighbours might have something to say about it

If you take a naked photo of a gentleman, make sure his feet are in the foreground so that his socks can rightfully be the main focus point of the composition.

Quite a lot of things to consider but it's mainly about lighting, composition and people within the photograph being happy and confident.

Plan ahead.

Keep the background simple, as an earlier respondent said keep clutter out of view.

A small 'f' stop (wide aperture) will help to blur background if that's what you want.

Use a tripod where possible.

If you can alter the camera flash so that you can have "fill-in" flash then great otherwise you might need to retake until you get it right, but hey, that's the beauty of digital.

as was said above, North facing window in winter would be pretty dark! But in summer a west facing window in the morning or east in the afternoon could have the desired effect.

Study pictures you like and try to not to see it as just a picture of a person, take note of:

1. Composition

2. Framing

3. Light (this one takes practise)

I would recommend a DSLR but you don't need to go getting the biggest and best, get a decent 2nd hand one with a few lenses and take similar pics with them and you will see how important the correct lense is.

Now for some controversy as some purists will love to disagree:

Although you need a good starting point, Photoshop is the only way to elevate you picture to the top level; now am not talking about the mouse shuffling edit that you are plastered everywhere.

Light travels in straight lines but can be scattered by what it passes through or bounces off.

The flash attached to your camera or handheld flashes are fitted with a freznell lens this makes them a hard light due to there size To make them to a soft light either point it at a white ceiling or for a more 3d look a white wall If you havnt access to a white large area to bounce the flash off convert to black and white and call it art.

Composition

Everything contained in the photo should add to the subject not distract, Before pressing the button check the viewfinder and ask yourself this if it doesnt, ethier remove it,change position or change its shape with good lighting technique.

Cant polish a turd, get it right in camera...

A good photo should tell a story or bring a feeling.

pay huge attention to the details. Bra straps straight, labels tucked in etc. Remember that in this digital age people may be able to enlarge your pictures and spot the smallest faults.

if your planning to do nude dont wear tight undies or clothes or you will spend an age waiting for red marks to go also cut labels out of thongs bras etc nothing looks worse than a great big label showing through an item

A off shoulder bra strap can look quiet good if paired with the right light light

why ? You can have the greatest camera in the world but If the pose light and composition are crap they will still be crap ,a crap picture is a crap picture wether on a camera phone or a top spec dslr

Rubbish! You can do loads on a bridge camera you're just stuck with jpgs which is only a problem if you intend on lots of post production edits. I still use mine even though I've upgraded to a DSLR.

If you get it right infront of the lens then it won't matter.

Another trick for flip flash is to use a white business card. Cut two slits in it at one end to slide around the flip arms and now you have a bounce card to soften the light.

wonderful pics, must say the purple dress shot is fantastic ,I would suggest why not try it again but the funny yellow thing in the sky is a rareity atm but I have had some great advice on this thread

thanks - we really just use the phone and take about 20 to get one we think we can use haha - but we usually get distracted
