For various reasons we are trying really hard not to waste any food. We've never thrown much food away but achieving zero waste is close to impossible.

How much food do you throw away? Do you stick by sell by dates or go with your nose?

I prefer to throw it down my greedy neck

Always with the nose - even when it's inside the use-by date!

I never abide by the dates on the label. If it looks ok and smells ok it gets eaten.

Unfortunately with 2 kids there is more waste than I'd like as they're unpredictable in their eating habits.

I don't go much by dates on labels except for meat. Definitely throw away more than I should though, mainly through lack of planning.

I go by my nose because Marc won't do it. I'm the official food taster!

We throw almost nothing away. We are far too cheap and it's easy to eat everything we buy when its only us two.

One thing I do often throw away is fresh cilantro. I just can't use all of it for the life of me!!

I had to Google cilantro . Can you freeze it and add to soup or casseroles?

What we find difficult is if you've had friends round and they've all brought something and despite being asked declined to take it home. I just can't find a use for bucket loads of coleslaw or left over dips

Oh, sorry. I think you guys call it coriander? Freezing is a good idea. I'll try it next time Cheers!

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I will only throw food away once its gone mouldy (apart from cheese). Floppy veg can be added to soups and stews, soft fruit stewed and added to yoghurts. Eggs don't hang around long enough to go bad.

Living alone means I only buy what I want to eat.

I've got a dog macerator...

3 seconds girgle girgle gone

My toast doesn't even have time to hit the floor butter side down!
