iPad help

i know this is a random Q but is there such a thing as external hard drive for iPad. I've had a bit of a google but I'm confused. I'm not tech-minded in the slightest can anyone help me please? Xx

No. It some memory sellers do an external flash drive that does the same and plugs into the lightning/30 pin socket below

San disk apparently do a WiFi memory device ompatible with I pad.. someone kindly posted on my ipad thread

You could use a NAS hard drive plugged into your router and connect to it from any of your devices

Not here

If your IPad has the Lightning connector, the Leef IBridge will do the job.

The Sandisk wifi USB stick has its own WIFI connection.

You can purchase both from Amazon.

Generally the apple stuff connects to other apple devices- using eg, their own version of the Bluetooth protocol.

Would be interested to hear of anyone connecting. An apple device to a non apple device. Cos its not possible.

Someone above mentions a usb, connected on wifi - but that's just storage. Not like you can watch a video etc on a usb stick

I use a WD My Passport Wireless external HDD

Also has a neat feature where it autocopies an SD card to itself without needing to be connected to any other device

Unfortunately things requiring wifi are not an option as its a gift for a relative who spends a significant amount of time in hospital. The Leef thing Max mentioned seems the best thing I've seen so far. Have bookmarked it to look properly tonight

The My Passport I referred too would be ideal as it creates it's own wireless hotspot that you then connect your ipad (or other device) too

That's exactly what the Sandisk does. I probably didn't explain it clarity enough.

I know nothing about iPads but during a recent hospital stay they had free and fast wi if....might be worth checking with the hospital?

I'm having a little trouble with my iPad memory too. Seems I can't run the update on it until I wipe most of my apps off it so was also thinking of an external device, I'm not the best with things like this, can someone please give me advice in simple terms thanks

What connector does your IPad have? Is it the 30 pin or the Lightning ( smaller) one?

OK, the Leef IBridge that I mention previously will work for you. In simple terms it docks with your IPad via the connector and you can then backup your IPad to the Leef which will allow you to create enough space on your IPad to run the update.

Yeah , had a look and it seems quite useful- so well recommended.

Only prob is you need an iPhone 6 or iPad 2, older models not having the I lightning slot.

The Scandisk works for older IPhones and IPads. It allows you to stream music and videos and can be set to automatically back up the camera roll. It obviously works for the newer models too.
