So the new Star Wars movie opens this week and I am hyped for it. Anyone else excited for it or is it just the child in me? Growing up I loved the original movies before Lucas tried to ruin my childhood with the prequels.

We know hardly anything about the story or characters, so if you have read any spoiler type material online please do not share it here.

Not me, I'd thought that the prequels had killed it stone dead. But JJ Abrahms is great, it's going to be epic!

Darth is black is he not ?

Come over to the dark side ?

It's a good children's film that teaches them the nuances of good & bad. A good starter film before you get into the grown up stuff.

I've never classed Star Wars as a kids film, but then there are many animated films that would be called kids films that adults enjoy.

We like what we like, I personally don't knock others for enjoying something I don't. Football, for example.

By all means join in but again, think you've over simplified it. Luke skywalker wears black in the final battle in return of the jedi.

Drug runners, slavers, sex servants, racism, power hungry war mongers... Just a few of the undertones.

But please do share, what grown up stuff are you referring to?

Probably not intentionally, but by referring to it as something until you get to the grown up stuff could imply that it's not something adults should be watching. I get what you actually mean though, it's a step to 'hard SF'.

Does this not represent his battle with the dark side and his struggle with his inner self and his doubts as to whether he's a worthy Jedi ?

You see now you have contradicted yourself. Earlier you gave the impression it was a simple split good versus evil...now you say the lines are blurred.

Did you know it was the original intention in the early drafts for Luke to kill Vader and assume the position as the Emperor's new apprentice?

Your original post implied Star wars is a simple series of films where all the goodies wear white and all the baddies wear black. It's not as simple as that. What are the 'grown up' Sci Fi films you were referring to then ?

All of it.

Every single last bit of anything to do with Star Wars is a load of crap.

It's an overblown exercise in making

money via special effects and a plot soooo thin you could fart it apart.

I missed the hype train on this... Just didn't connect with any of it even when I was young... I'm certain the stories are far more layered then Lord of The Rings...but the latter took me on a far more pleasurable journey.

I hope the new one is a decent watch.

I liked Abrams' Fringe, till the final series...
