I'm sure I've asked this before, but can anyone name any memorably Christmassy tunes that have been released this millennium, and may be played thirty + years from now, that are featured in the same kind of rotation as Slade, Wizzard, Kirsty McColl and the Pogues, Elton John etc...?

That was the only one I could think of, as it has that cheesily campy sound to it which makes it stick like a Christmas hit should, however, it was released 13 years ago now, and showcases the point of this thread so far, how musical inspiration is sorely lacking in so many of todays bands.

Sadly, the Christmas number one spot has been dominated by X Factor pap for far too long. All instantly forgettable.

No. I was just thinking about this the other day actually. Modern music is generally pants anyway, nevermind modern Christmas tunes. A lot of current music seems to be more interested in regurgitating old songs and not writing good original new songs.

I could say commercialism has killed music, but it's more than that, you had commercial music in the 80s, but even the SAW hit factory managed to put out a bucket of classics, the same can't be said for the same overproduced, hyped and marketed to fuck CRAP dominating the airwaves today (and for most of this millennium in general).

It's just as though the real love and heart in music is gone, or at least extremely rare.

You beat me to it, X factor has destroyed Christmas songs. Be glad when that show gets the chop now.

Look at anything that comes out of the x factor, the majority of it is covers. Such a shame to waste half decent talent.
