Giving or Receiving?

When you're a kid, everyone looks forward to Christmas because of all the exciting presents we're getting, but personally I've found as an adult, I more enjoy the thought of others seeing what I've got them, particularly my nephews and nieces, every pair of wide eyes and 'Wow!' makes me think 'Yeah, I'm a cool uncle'

Does anyone else feel the same?

Yes I feel the same, would rather give gifts and see the excitement on thier faces.

My grandson is a bit young to be going wow over his presents.

But I love giving gifts, love it when i get it "right". But I don't give many gifts at Christmas, I give them as when jay had his Christmas present in september

I know you shouldn't expect gratitude when giving a gift, but I still absolutely hate it when children don't say thank you. My SIL's sister's kids got £50 spent on each of them last year and didn't say thanks (one wouldn't even open them).

If people are appreciative, then I prefer giving. I definitely go overboard on buying my family presents.

I guess I'm a bit selfish, but I think I equally enjoy the giving and receiving of gifts. I really like to see when a person likes (or dislikes!) the present I give them. But on the other hand, I like to see what types of presents someone got me - what they thought I would like. The mutual appreciation is what I enjoy.

That is also why I don't really exchange gifts with too many people. I don't see the point in giving each other gift cards or something meaningless. If I can't think of a personal present to give, then I don't think we need to give each other presents (this of course does not go for children).

I'd agree with this. But my in-laws are terrible for buying a load of tat just for the sake of it, and I know I'll be giving half of it away to raffles and jumble sales during the year. I hate getting sucked into just giving for the sake of it too.

There's websites for Secret Santa things if you miss giving? Others may not receive anything.

I'll still get them stuff but nowhere near as much. Not their fault they've been brought up poorly.

I like it when you just know you've bought a gift that is spot on & it's fun to see them wrapping it. The same applies to receiving one too so I guess I like both

Sometimes the best gift you can give is to graciously and genuinely gratefully receive a gift.

My mum is always saying she would rather not receive anything but enjoys giving I've had to explain to her that depriving others of experiencing that same pleasure by allowing them to give to her isn't in the true spirit of giving in my opinion.
