Best front man/woman of a group?

Jump to newest

I, female half, went to see Stereophonics last night with some girlfriends. I do think Kelly Jones is a brilliant front man.

Ricky Wilson of Kaiser Chiefs is really charismatic as well on stage.

Who, past or present, would you nominate? If it's a current one, will help me decide who I might fancy seeing next!

"Iggy Pop"

Apparently he once stage dived, landed on a drinks glass, cut a nasty gash in himself, then carried on performing whilst spurting blood.

That's pretty Rock n Roll

But for the men, Freddie Mercury was without equal....

In the day no one could touch Dave Lee Roth (Van Halen). His voice was no match for Freddie Mercury's but he could out perform the moustachioed one every night of the week and twice on Sunday.

Shame he's utter shite now!

Maxi Jazz from Faithless. Not far off 60 and still goes mental on stage.

Freddie, obviously, but I really loved watching Jarvis on stage. Keith Flint too.

For the women I liked Courtney Love or Skin. PJ Harvey has an ethereal presence which is good to watch.

Freddie has always been my favourite front man, however I saw Adam Lambert front Queen this year and he was absolutely phenomenal. If you are looking for pitch perfect vocals, the most incredible range, topped off with consummate dramatic performance, there is no one I've seen recently that I think can touch him.

Rou Reynolds of enter shikari

Not the greatest but energy wise he's up there. The entire band has mega energy.

Also Sid Wilson the DJ of slipknot has some pretty hard to beat stage antics.

Benji is amazing. When he gets the crowd to do the Newport helicopter haha ace.

James Hetfield and Ginger Wildheart are my two favourites. Closely followed by Brian Johnstone and Myles Kennedy.

Scott Weiland was ace too. RIP x

Yeah agreed!

A good frontman/woman should stand out but make the rest of the band look great too - and it should always be clear that they're a group - not a solo artist with a backing band! Xxx

Totally agree with you on that one!

When I think of a great singer I think of someone like Freddie Mercury who was also a great frontman..

But Roth took it to a level I've never anyone match since at a couple of hundred gigs.

A great combination of voice, moves, charisma and let's be honest..a cocky fucker who the crowd worshipped.

But your also right in that he's way beyond fucked now and a desperately poor vocalist although I have to admire the fact they put out their live album this year without a single vocal overdub regardless of how it sounded.

Beth hart simply for the power in her voice.

For laughs, got to be steel panther. Its a pisstake but they stay in character.

I dont think anyone will ever match freddie.
