So last week I was really early for work. I started at 6pm but arrived around 5 since I dropped mrsdpt off at her workplace before so made no sense to go back home tor 20 mins.

Anyway...

I took a song of fire and ice with me to read, trying to read them all before April

A few other guys turned up about 20 mins later and said does anyone actually read books now, why don't you get a kindle?

So does anyone actually read books now, or does everyone just use kindles?

I also bought "A knight of the seven kingdoms" yesterday so a song of fire and ice is on hold for a few days.

I definitely read books! My whole Stephen King collection - and that's a big collection! It alone is about thirteen hundred pages - is in book form and I always have a book in my bag.

Plus the three ebook reader apps I have on my phone.

I only buy books as I find I don't concentrate with text on a tablet. Books are better.

Hmmm... yes but not Salem's Lot. Someone once lost my copy of that, they bought me a new one and now I actually have three copies of it so I'm never without a copy of it again.

Real books all the way for me. Kindles and the like feel too cold and soulless for me. I like the feel of a book in the hands, the way you can flick through the pages, the smell of the paper.

I'm sure ebooks have their place, like if you're on holiday etc, but I won't be changing over to them anytime soon.

I like kindles and books.

At the moment, being back at uni it's a lot of text books to read, but I do like both.

The kindle will be perfect for me if I ever go on holiday (I've had it 4 years and not done so far!) as I used to take 5/6 books with me!

I still re-read my books though and borrow from the library. The kindle is good for just getting cheap stuff to see what it's like, if I wanted anything other than escapist chick lit I would definitely get a proper version!

I couldn't do without books. I tried a kindle but I couldn't cope with staring at the backlit screen for hours and hours.

I like having books, seeing them on the shelf and strewn around the house brings comfort and gives me great pleasure.

You can buy kindles that don't have a backlit screen.

Another question.

Anyone fussed for first editions?

I paid £9 for a knight of the seven kingdoms from asda, looked on eBay and the first editions are about £35.

Is it more for serious collectors?

Unless the first editions come with super powers then nope, the enjoyment is from the reading not the bragging rights.

Can't beat the real thing for me,i find reading from a screen to be rather soulless. I enjoy the entire process of rooting round old book shops ect. Something about the smell entices me, and once I start a book I hate putting it down.... A screen doesn't have the same effect...

I like books, I have the kindle app for my tablet but that's purely for books that are out of print like supervert, I just like the feel, the smell and the overall look of a book
