Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I'm sorta kinda looking for another job and was told to get my LinkedIn profile sorted. Since I became more active on there I've been friended by a lot of people I have never met, nor have they the same sort of jobs than me. Sooooo, I guess I know the answer to this but...

Is LinkedIn some sort of secret sex site I was unaware of, and should I friend them back? Some of them are hot

Lol no my understanding is its strictly professional but the site will look for associated connections etc.

All recruiters will look at your profile so it's best to have it looking top notch.

My boss put me on when I was at another company.

It has never helped me in business.

I keep getting new invites even though I haven't actively used the site for 5yrs now.

I get email notifications most weeks.

I don't get hotties though

The bigger their network the higher they come in search results etc..

They'll want to advertise their posts. The more connections, the more chance of having their posts liked for greater visibility on the network.

You don't have to connect with anyone you don't want to, it probably won't really have any benefit to you professionally. However, if you have a product that you market occasionally, it may help in the future.

LinkedIn is a magpie kinda site, the more people you are linked in to, the more likely you are to hit gold with a mutual connection... so it may not be you they want to connect with, but just looking for other networks.

Its kinda the 6 degrees of separation thing... so a lot of people request folks they have nothing in common with at all, just hoping to make the right click somewhere.

I get all sorts of randoms trying to link up with me - one day I'll actually bother to complete my profile - I think it's been sat there 25% complete for about 3 years.

LinkedIn has been a massive waste of time for me. Loads of friend collectors and ooooh endorse me for this and say I'm good at this. Load of bollocks. Recruitment agencies add you too and don't actually do anything to help you find a new job either.

it's a job site not a hook up site _yrdwoman, separate the two and focus on the job hunting part not the guys you find attractive on there trying to add you....

That probably depends on your industry. I get around 10-20 recruitment messages a day, and had 2 placements as a result of being contacted via LinkedIn.

It's useful for seeing who is moving on thereby creating a job vacancy.

I've had three work opportunities come through LinkedIn in the last two months but the five months before that nothing. I'm a passive user though. Others are much more proactive and I have found when I am proactive it results in more leads for work.

I've found it to be totally useless for anything. It's like an extremely boring Facebook. I get people every week wanting to 'connect to my network' but they're either old colleagues who I met in the odd project meeting or recruiters who never contact you again. I guess you need to be an excitable American in media or 'business relations' to find much use in it.

Work is work and sex is sex unless your new career is a Hooker I would keep the two well and truly seperate

A lot of business is done at the golf club or at various events without the use of LinkedIn .

I have seen people have their Facebook and LinkedIn profile scrutinised and even to the point of asking people on the two what the owner is like

Last thing you want is a potential employer looking at your LinkedIn and see he plays golf or goes to a club with one of your contacts and when asked he says . She sucks like a dyson and squirts for England and likes 3 cocks at a time . Met her on a swinging site
