Me and other half are having a discussion on how to brush your teeth.... do you use cold or warm water... I use warm and he uses cold.....

what does everyone else think x

Same it has a very strange taste, I've never known anyone use warm water though.

Cold water as it comes from the fresh mains whereas hot can come from a tank and be full of germs.

Plus it would taste odd I think?

What are you using the water for?

I wet the toothbrush with cold water and rinse it with cold water after I have finished brushing.

You shouldn't rinse your mouth out as you remove the protective properties of using toothpaste.

Warm water helps dissolve the fat on pots and pans. Do you have lots of fat on your teeth.

Anyway, the fact that hot water comes from a tank in my attic would put me off using it.

That's the way I do it. You clear up the detritus from the flossing with the brushing.

Always warm water. The pollutants have mostly settled out. And there's very little chlorine left in it. Only really to wet my brush then rinse my lips. You shouldn't really rinse your mouth out after. Hence flossing first..

Your mouth is warm already. Cleaning is with the brushing not the water.

I use warm - my teeth just feel cleaner afterwards. Z uses cold.

I don't have a tank (combi boiler) so I don't really consider that.

I couldn't face NOT rinsing and keeping grotty, gritty toothpaste in my mouth. Yuk!It'd feel like having a shower, using gel and leaving the cubicle all covered in bubbles.

Depends on the plumbing system.

Up to recently, my wash basin was fed from the cold water tank. It is now fed directly off the mains.

Every dentist I have ever been to has told me to never rinse out after brushing. It's a really good way to avoid the chlorine content (except, of course, I drink water).

Dentists recommend it as leaving the toothpaste on carries on helping teeth. However I think its more important for sensitive teeth.

Every dentist I have ever been to has told me to never rinse out after brushing. It's a really good way to avoid the chlorine content (except, of course, I drink water).

I don't rinse with water, I rinse with high fluoride mouth wash on the advise of my dentist xx

My dentist told me it makes no difference, the only advantage to warm water was if you have sensitive teeth so cold would hurt.

I use toothpaste. That water is for the toothbrush before and after brushing so it can be warm or cold.

I use cold water, as I'm thinking that warmer water will help dissolve the toothpaste too much - when you actually want some of the paste remaining on your teeth - the flouride specifically.

On a recent visit to the dentist I was prescribed a fluoride toothpaste for some reason

It cost me £8.50

What difference is that one to the Colgate fluoride I already use

Is she trying to tell me something or just rip me off
